With a wink as she says, “It took some work and time, but I got new contracts drawn up. They no longer have the clause in it forbidding a relationship with—”

“Thank you so much, Sandra!” I jump up and hug her before she can finish. “You shouldn’t make me get teary-eyed before a show!” I tease, but the relief I feel is immense.

She hugs me back then cries out, “You have to go on stage now!”“Oh, yeah!” I yelp, then start running towards the stage and the band.

We give it our all. The show is glorious — even the tiara holds up quite well and makes me feel truly special.

Brody watches the show from the sidelines, with Eric and Sandra in tow — Sandra normally doesn’t watch the shows, so I’m finding this turn of events quite amusing.

When the show is over, I go reach for a towel and I’m greeted by Brody. “Let’s stay here and watch the show,” he says.

It’s a nice change and I like the idea of just relaxing a bit, but I know that this must be part of their mischievous plans and I want to play a little too. “What if I don’t want to watch the show?”

He gets the gist of what I’m doing quite quickly and knows I’m jesting. “Then I’ll have to punish you later,” he lifts his shades to look at me, his green eyes gleaming.

I take a chair and sit, and with the help of a bottle of water, I wait for Sweets’ show to start.

She stops by on her way to the stage, grabbing me by the hand and forcing me to stand. “Let’s go!” she says, ecstatic.

“Go where?” I ask, now genuinely dumbfounded myself.

“To the stage! You’re singing a song with me!”

My eyes get to the size of dinner plates as Sweets guides me by the hand, back to the stage I just left.

Still not letting go of my hand, she takes me to center stage and grabs the microphone off the stand. “Good night, everybody!” she says, and the audience roars to the sound of her voice. “Tonight is a special night, and we are going to celebrate!”

As the crowd sends in more and more cheers, a staffer hands me a microphone of my own. Sweets keeps on talking, “I brought Lily here back on stage because I want to make a dream of mine come true. Sing with me, Lily?”

“What!” I cry out in utter disbelief, feeling adrenaline coursing through my veins like fragile glass. “We didn’t even rehearse!”

“No need,” she rolls her arm around mine, “You know this song quite well!”

She starts to sing the first verse of “Honey Spiced Ale” and I’m in shock that she is singing my song. I just observe her, and when her band begins their rendition of my song, I finally start to sing along with her.

We sing, and we dance together. We move and we jump, skipping around the stage as if it were our childhood backyard.

When the song is over, I’m more out of breath than I was after my whole show.

“Okay what should I do now?” I say, looking from side to side, not sure where to go. The stage suddenly feels way too big for me.

“Oh, don’t go just yet!” Sweets shakes her finger in front of her chest. “The real surprise comes now!”

She points to the sidelines, where Brody and Sandra are coming up on stage. Sandra has her cellphone filming, and Brody has a microphone in his hand. “Okay… I’m so confused!” I say.

“Folks, this is Sandra, Lily’s manager, and Brody, her bodyguard and her beau!” Sweets says.

Brody stops right in front of me, with the widest smile I’ve ever seen on his face. And Sandra stops right behind us, focusing us on camera.

“You can go on, Brody,” she says.

And with that, he takes the microphone to his lips and starts to talk. “My work is backstage. I’m usually not in front of the crowd so I’m not sure if what I’m going to say is going to come out the right way. But Lily, please believe me: it is all coming from the bottom of my heart.”

I start to shake, already sensing what’s going on, but it’s feeling surreal and I’m having a hard time believing it’s happening. I really hope I’m not dreaming.

“Lily…” Brody takes my hand. “I met you under abnormal circumstances. Some would say we weren’t even meant to happen, mostly because I’m technically your employee.” The audience breaks its silence to laugh, and he continues when they quiet down.

“But now here we are, together, and in so little time, waiting for a baby.”
