Will’s lip rises. “This means we can levitate even higher. You worry about getting better first, okay?” Will turns to me, his steps closing the distance, as if he doesn’t want Tyler to hear what he’s about to say. “I’ll wait for you in the lobby.”

“No. You’ve done so much today. You are officially off duty.”

“You don’t have a car, remember?”

I forgot I left it at the office and took the Lavish Events truck to the mansion with all of our things. “The wedding! I have to get back there and break everything down.”

“Don’t you worry about it. I have plenty of guys I can call to move everything.”

“I can’t—”

“I’ve got this,” he states firmly.

I nod at his authoritative stare. It’s disarming and has me looking to the side.

Tyler doesn’t seem too keen on Will’s take-charge attitude. The line on his forehead is deeper than the Grand Canyon.

“Every time I think I’ve got ahold on one aspect of my life, another implodes.”

“Take care of Hunter. I’ll check in on you tomorrow.” Will places a soft kiss on my forehead, and it sends a calming warmth down my body.

Maisie walks over to Hunter. “I’m so happy you’re okay, Hunty.” Then, she places a hand on Tyler’s arm. “I’ll wait in the car and follow you back.”

“No need,” Tyler says to her. “I’m going to bring Hunter and Melissa home. I’ll see you back at the house.”

Maisie’s eyes dart to the side. “Absolutely. Take care of your son. I’ll wait up.”

She leans forward and gives him a kiss on the lips. It’s the first time I’ve seen them intimate. The other times we’ve been together, they’ve never so much as held hands in front of me.

Their action doesn’t bother me like I thought it would. I’m confused by this, yet I shake it off.

“Looks like I’m going home with Tyler,” I explain to Will. “I think Hunter will like having Mom and Dad dote on him a little.”

The tense lift of Will’s chin is pointed in Tyler’s direction. “Call me if you have any problems.”

I roll my eyes. “The man’s harmless.”

“That’s true, but you’re not.” Will winks and then walks down the hall.

As Will and Maisie head out of the hospital, Tyler and I stand in the hallway with our son. I look down to see we each have a hand on one of his shoulders.

“Can we go home now?”

Tyler runs his hand over Hunter’s head. “Yeah, let’s go home.”

It’s two more hours until we get Hunter seen by another doctor. A pediatric orthopedist takes a look at his wrist and gives him a cast. We opted to just have it done there instead of going tomorrow. It’s already late, so what’s another hour?

After, the pediatrician has to review the charts and schedules a follow-up visit for Monday.

By the time we walk in the front door of my dad’s house, Hunter is fast asleep, and Tyler is carrying him into the house.

As they climb the stairs, Dad is coming down.

“How’s he doing?” His tone is one of a concerned grandpa and not the ornery kind he uses at this hour when he’s waiting for me to come home.

“He’s okay. Gave us a good scare, but he’s all right.”

Dad thumbs up toward the staircase. “You’d better check on your daughter. She’s still up. Been worried sick about her brother. Doesn’t say much, but there’s a hole in her comforter the size of Montana from the threads she’s been picking at it. I told her he’s fine, but she wanted to wait until you got home to see for herself.”
