“I want you to be happy. You and Ralph work well together. I’ll also be asking for another sub or two to help out when you’re not available because I don’t expect you to be here every night.”

“I only work Fridays and Saturdays.” It beat sitting at home.

“Yes, but there may be a time when you need a night off or are sick. I’d rather be prepared.”

“That works.” Max still held her hands, so she wondered if there was something else. “Is there something more?”

Max nodded. “Gabriel.”

Dani shook her head. “Gabriel is fine.” She wouldn’t deny Gabriel time in the club—she could deal. The question was could he.

“Are you two on speaking terms?”

“I think so.” Were they? She hadn’t talked to him since last Saturday, and she hadn’t expected to. She’d pretty much thrown the ball in his court. It was time for him to decide what he wanted.

“All right. I won’t meddle, but I can’t guarantee Sierra and the others won’t.”

Dani grinned. “It’s fine, Max.”

“Good.” He squeezed her hands again and released her. “I’ll let you know when the training on the new system will happen. I’m afraid it will be on a Saturday or Sunday.”

“I can work with that.” Max stood, and she followed suit.

“Go into the club so Sierra doesn’t think I killed you.” He grinned.

Dani slipped out of the classroom and into the club. Leather, pine, and—her nose wrinkled—sweat.

“There she is,” Sierra said, entwining her arm with Dani’s. “We were beginning to worry.”

“I’m good.” They walked over to the sub area. A sense of peace filled her. Yes, she enjoyed being at the club.

It was almost ten when Gabriel walked into Wicked Sanctuary. He’d debated with himself for the past few hours whether this was a good idea. He signed in and went to put his things in a locker.

He didn’t need to change; he wasn’t planning on playing, so he left his shirt on, and his pants were fine. He walked into the club. He caught the beat of the music and took in a slow, deep breath and let it out.

Here he could let go of everything. Forget about work and his parents. He needed this. Sliding up to the bar, he sat on one of the stools and looked around. Jordan had Crystal tied up on one of the bondage tables. Damon and Tessa were at a St. Andrew’s cross, and Rose and Oliver were at the spanking horse. They looked good together. It was amazing what the right Dom did for Rose. And the right sub; Oliver never looked so happy. He grinned as his gaze turned to the sub area.

There she was. Dani was sitting with Allyson and Sage. He hadn’t seen Sage in a while. After the dust up at the end of last year with Brady’s family, she and Brady had kept a low profile. He was glad to see her here.

He slipped off the stool and walked over to where Dani sat.

“Gabriel,” Sage said, jumping up. “Okay to hug?”

“Of course.” He held his arms open.

Sage gave him a big hug before stepping back. “How are you doing?”

“All right.” He glanced at Dani and Allyson. “Evening, ladies.”

Dani kept her gaze on him, and she stood. “I’m going to call it a night.”

Allyson’s face fell, but she nodded. “I’ll walk you out.”

“Dani,” Gabriel started.

Still at Gabe’s side, Sage whispered, “Not tonight.”
