“I talked with some of the other Doms. I approached you the wrong way all those years ago. I can see that now. You had a right to be angry with me. I made the same mistake a few weeks ago. I will do better.”

The sincerity in his voice caused excitement to shimmer through her veins. He was taking the first step. “What are you proposing?”

“Will you allow me to be your Dom?”

Dani tilted her head. The request didn’t surprise her, but she wasn’t sure it would work out. However, if she didn’t try, she would never know. “I have some conditions.”

He spread his hands out in front of him on the table. “Go for it.”

“Dom in the club is acceptable.”

“What about in the bedroom?”

“Who says I’m going to be in your bedroom?” she asked.

Gabriel laughed. Waves of contentment slid over Dani’s skin like a soft blanket.

“We’re explosive together. I can all but guarantee there’s going to be sex between us.”

Instead of making her back away, his announcement made her body light up like a Christmas tree, all tingling and excited. “All right, but we make the decision together at the time it happens.”

“Agreed.” He held his hand out, palm up. She slipped her hand into his. “Will you tell me what your hard limits are?”

“It would probably be easier to tell you what I will do rather than what I won’t.”

“Does kink still scare you on some level?” Gabriel shifted closer to her.

“Not really. There are just a lot of things I don’t want to try.” Although part of her began to wonder if doing some of those things with Gabriel would be different than what she’d watched in the clubs.

“All right. Tell me what you will do.”

“Bondage, toys, light flogging, and certain paddles.”

“That’s pretty limited.” He ran his finger over her warm cheek. “Do you mind if I read your questionnaire?”

“Not at all. Even though I was in the kink community in San Francisco, I’m really still a novice. Max insisted I wear a pink and white wristband.”

“Max is a good judge. He’s right. You may feel like you’re a novice, but compared to a new sub, you’re not.”

He studied her for a minute. “Going forward, I want you to understand if you accept me as your Dom, we’re going see each other outside the club. Exclusively.”

“What do you mean by that?” Dani didn’t pull her hand back, and his fingers tightened around hers.

“I mean...” He hesitated, and Dani wondered what that meant. “I’m going to lay this out. I really want you to say yes to me being your Dom. Once I have your agreement, it means we will see each other in the club and outside the club. And we’ll talk about each aspect and any changes. So maybe we won’t make as many mistakes.”

Dani tilted her head and stared at him. “Neither one of us is perfect.”

“You’re right about half of that, anyhow. I’m not perfect.”

Dani’s heart melted. Gabriel’s words told her how much he’d thought about this. They both had. This time, they would communicate better. “It wasn’t all your fault.” She’d closed down on him. Maybe she should start paying more attention to her attitude. “I haven’t been exactly forthcoming.”

“I get it.” He squeezed her fingers again. “You mentioned to me you were stressed those last few months we were together. Can you talk to me about it?”

She shook her head. “It’s not something I’m ready to discuss. My regret is that I stopped talking to you. We graduated, and I couldn’t see anything improving, so I took the job in San Francisco. By the time I realized my reaction was over the top, the damage was done, and we’d both moved on.”

“You could’ve called me, texted me, or even emailed me.”

The confusion in his eyes tugged at her guilt. She wasn’t ready to discuss all her secrets. “It wasn’t about you. I needed to deal with my situation, and I did.” Maybe not the way she should have. It took a year of counseling for her to realize that what happened was not her fault, and even if she had told Gabriel, there was nothing he could have done.
