“True. But you tasted so good.”

Heat swept through her. This man could render her speechless so easily. But now what? She wasn’t sure what to do. It wasn’t like she and Gabriel hadn’t woken up together before. But this felt different. This was different.

“I can see you thinking.” Gabriel strode over to her and put his hands on her shoulders. “Let’s have breakfast, and then we can chat.”

“I think I’d like that.” Breakfast. She wasn’t so sure about the chat. But they did need to talk. He’d given her such pleasure last night but hadn’t let her return it. That wasn’t unusual for him, but it still surprised her that Gabriel could be so thoughtful. Most men weren’t.

Dani followed him to his kitchen, and the smell of fresh coffee hit her senses. “When did you have time to start coffee?” She spied the full pot sitting on the counter.

Gabriel chuckled. “It’s on a timer.” He pulled two mugs from the cabinet and poured the coffee. “Go sit down at the table while I get creamer out of the refrigerator.”

She picked up both mugs and carried them to the nice, heavy wooden table. “Where did you get this?” She ran her hand over the polished tabletop.

“One of the guys at the club does woodworking in his spare time.” He set the cream in front of her and pushed the sugar bowl over. “You like cream and sugar with your coffee.”

“I do.” What else did he remember? She added the cream and sugar and took a sip. A moan left her lips. “Ahh, that first sip always tastes so good.”

He didn’t say anything, and when Dani glanced at him, he was watching her, his deep brown eyes thoughtful.

“What did you want to talk about?” Now why did she ask that?

“Tell me more about the time you spent at the clubs and parties in San Francisco.”

Dani looked down at her coffee cup. “What more is there to tell?”

“Dani.” His voice dropped, and a tiny shiver went through her body. “What are you not telling me?”

“What makes you think I haven’t told you something?” Oh dear Lord, was she that transparent? Her stomach clenched as the icy fingers of deception crept up her spine.

“The woman I had in my bed last night said it’d been too long. At first, that didn’t make sense to me, but in the light of day, I have to wonder. I know you didn’t have sex with your Dom, but you must have had sex with other people.”

She curled her fingers around the warm mug, seeking its heat. “Of course I did.” That was a lie. She peeked from beneath her lashes to see Gabriel staring at her.

“Now why don’t I believe that.” He cradled his mug in his hands as he sat back in the chair. “I haven’t been a saint, but there hasn’t been a parade of women in my life either. So how many men did you sleep with?”

Part of her wanted to lie, and another part reminded her if this relationship was to work, they needed to be open and honest with each other. She almost snorted. “There were two men. I dated both for a while, and we had sex. That was it.”

“How long has it been since you last orgasmed?”

“Last night,” she quipped.

“I guess I walked into that one. Before last night.”

She took another sip of her coffee and calculated the time. Oh this was so bad, so very bad. “Why is this so important to you?”

His coffee mug hit the table with a clunk. Gabriel leaned forward, elbows on the table, fingers steepled, his chin resting on his thumbs. “Communication, remember. Last night your reactions were of a woman who hadn’t had pleasure in a very long time. I want to know what I’m dealing with.”

“It’s been two years since the last boyfriend, and I don’t know, four and a half years since I last orgasmed.” She kept her gaze on him, watching him calculate the time in his head.

“Are you telling me the last time you climaxed was with me in college?”

Dani gathered her courage. “Yep.”

Storm clouds gathered in Gabriel’s eyes as he pushed back from the table and stormed into the kitchen. Dani didn’t move. The clanging of pans let her know that Gabriel was having trouble processing what she said.

He’d been like that when they were together. Whenever he got angry and couldn’t process his thoughts, he’d go to the kitchen and cook. She called it his stress reliever. Dani drank the rest of her coffee, and went to stand in the doorway to the kitchen.

Gabriel was transferring items from the refrigerator to the counter. A carton of eggs, a slab of bacon, cheese, and a bowl of fruit.
