His father snickers at my side. “This isn’t funny, but come on, son. Ifyou aregoing to lie, at least lie well.”

“Baby, listen to me. Youcannotbelieve this ridiculous lie.” His grip on my shoulders is crushing.

I stomp on his foot. “Let that be the last time you touch me.” He winced from the pain. “It’s not a lie! I saw you both. You aredisgusting! It’s one thing to cheat on me, but with my mother?! You both can have each other. You’re dead to me and so is she. So next time you see my mother, let her know.”

“Idid notsleep with her I swear! You must be confused.” Greyson’s father laughs again. “Dad, I don’t need a laugh track to my downfall.”

“Then stop being so damn funny, son.”

I cannot believe this right now. I turn around and walk away.

“Taurus, stop! You’re just going to give up on us? On all the years we’ve been together?” The audacity continues.

I continue walking and ignore him. His voice kept calling out to me, and I could hear his father as well trying to calm him down. As I keep walking, I see white butterflies fluttering around. My father used to say they were a symbol of luck, but he died young so what did he know…

Chapter 1

A Year Later

The host smiles brightly. “Right this way, Ms. Maxwell. Mr. Allard has already arrived. Please follow me to your table.” The host politely says. I follow her to the center of the restaurant.

“Ms. Maxwell, so glad to see you. Thank you for coming.” Mr. Allard gets up and shakes my hand. This was a business dinner with Arthur Allard, he designed the most beautiful line of clothes, and his focus is more on new-age streetwear. He has been looking for a designer with fresh ideas.

I take out my portfolio, but he stops me.

“We will get to your designs later. I want to know more about you.” His body shifts and sits right up.

“Whataboutme?” I ask a bit confused.

His smile stretches, “well, what are your interests?”

“Interests? Designing mostly, I don’t get out much or have friends.I amcompletely dedicated to my craft.”

“Is that right?” I feel his hand slide under the table to my knee. “I hear you're single.”

“Unless you want me to embarrass you, I suggest you take your hand off.” I take the fork from the table and stab his hand with it. His teeth clench trying not to make a sound.

“I don’t think you know what you’re doing,” He growls quietly. “Apologize now before I reconsider.”

“So, you think I’ll sleep with you if I want my designs in your next show? Preying on an artist to get your dick wet. Are all men this pathetic…?” I rub my temple before getting up.

I grab my portfolio and leave. I turn back to make sure hedoes notfollow me and unexpectedly I crash into the revolving door. “Why?” I groan, squatting on the ground from the pain. Great now I’m bleeding from my forehead.

I walk through and sit outside holding my bleeding forehead. A voice calls out to me, “Taurus?” I look over and see Greyson’s father, I never got his name. “I apologize I never properly introduced myself. My name is Ru, Ru Wén.”

His last name is different than Greyson’s. Greyson’s last name is Daniels. His dark eyes rest on my forehead.

“Taurus Maxwell.” I greeted.

“Why are you bleeding?” He pulls my hand away from my head and takes out his pocket square, using it to absorb the blood.

“I-”Before I could speak, Mr. Allard made his way outside huffing and puffing.

Mr. Allard looks over at me and snarls, “Are you going to apologize for assaulting me, or do I need to get my lawyer involved.”

Ru looks at me and then at Mr. Allard. “Did he do this?” His voice calms as he looks back at me.

“No, I ran into the door on accident. Before that happened, he put his hand on my leg, so I stabbed him with a fork.” I explain. Ru gets up, but I stop him, “Please don’t start something. I just want to go home.”
