He’d have found Aspen and made sure she was okay.

He’d be searching for me. I knew he would be.

If I couldn’t fight physically, it was time to try something else.

I wasn’t ready to lay down and take defeat just yet.

“Okay,” I rasped. “I’ll make the video.”

DRAKE

“The club just landed,” Reed announced. “A couple of my guys are picking them up right now. Should be here in about twenty minutes.”

It was getting late now.

Close to ten o’clock.

When I didn’t answer, he tried something else. “Simon also called from reception while you were in the shower to say the Harleys you ordered are downstairs waiting for when you need them.” He scoffed, then added. “I feel like your damn secretary.”

“That image alone makes me wanna be sick.”

I couldn’t stop pacing in front of the large windows that looked out over the city. The lights out there were the only thing keeping me from tearing this fucking place apart because I knew one of them had to be Cassie. I didn’t give a shit if our engagement was fake, everything else was real as fucking hell.

The way I was head over heels falling for her.

The way she made me laugh.

The way my body came alight when she was near.

All fucking real.

I knew I loved building before. I knew I loved architecture, restoration, and the beauty of creating something or returning something to its former glory. But it had been Cassie who’d reminded me maybe it was more than that. And maybe I was smothering my passion so I didn’t have to make other choices. I was underplaying the pull I had to Boston because admitting it meant making decisions I didn’t want to make.

After this, there was no question.

When I find her, we’re going to buy a house and get engaged for real, just like Reed said.

I was going to make her happy.

And she was going to be there to pull me into line when I needed it.

It might not be me claiming her like my brothers do or giving her my colors to wear, those things for us would be different, but her being mine wouldn’t mean any less.

I’d make sure the world knew it.

“Drake, your phone beeped a couple of times,” Aspen announced, stepping out of my bedroom and rubbing at her eyes. She’d gone to lay down a couple of hours ago after the cops had arrived asking question after question none of us could or wanted to answer.

At this stage, they were on the lookout for Emmett, Cassie, and Simon’s vehicle, but it honestly didn’t sound like it was on their priority list when one of them said, “Do you think this might just be her way of breaking up with you?”

And another one added, “Maybe she’s too scared to do it to your face.”

Oh yeah. So she staged a break-in, had her new boyfriend beat up her best friend, and ran off into the fucking sunset.Sure.

And that was why this would be taken care of by the club now.

Fuck the consequences.

Fuck the repercussions.
