I pinched the bridge of my nose. “You’re lying the same way you have before, Tiff, and if I can’t trust you… We had an agreement. Full truth and nothing but the truth as co-parents. Your lie about Kensi was supposed to be the last one—”
“This lie was a white lie, and no one got hurt. Kensi still has a super liver.”
“That’s not the point I’m trying to make.”
Her chin dropped. “I know. I’m sorry.”
I drew air in and out of my nose, choosing my words. “We got a match on Kensi’s DNA,” I said.
“We did? That’s great, isn’t it? You said it would benefit Kensi.”
“I did, and it does. Her birthmother reached out. She asked us to find space in our hearts and lives so she can get to know her daughter.”
“What? James, you know what this means, don’t you?”

My brows twitched toward each other.
“The mother wants her child back.”
“She’s not like that.”
“You know who it is?”
I released a strangled breath. “Her mother was the anonymous liver donor. They took the baby from her at birth and told her the child was stillborn.”
Tiffany covered her mouth with her hand. “Oh, my God.”
“I know. She’s only recently found out her girl is even alive.”
“Oh, my God.”
“It’s messed up. I can’t even believe how messed up it is, Tiff. I… I don’t know what to do.”
“Wait—so who is it?” A worried look coasted over her eyes.
“It’s Laura. Laura is Kensi’s biological mother.”
Tiffany must have held her breath for at least a minute, and when she let it go, she gasped and held it longer.
“How is this possible?”
