I sighed. She had a pass on that one. “All right. Can you help me tackle the cougars?” I nodded to the bar. “They’re gonna rip Hunter to shreds.”

“I’m ready when you are. Let’s go and conquer.”

Hunter followed us two steps behind. He grabbed a hot dog on the way and stuffed it into his mouth. We ordered two piña coladas and joined Lexie, Carly, and Susanne on the loungers. Hunter held back by the palm tree, scouring the area.

The girls hustled around me. “So? Who’s the new man?”

“He’s not new. It’s Hunter.”

“Hunter the pool boy?”

“Hunter the mechanic?”

“Hunter the gardener?”

The three of them asked all at once, lifting in their seats and lowering their glasses. They stared unapologetically until Hunter shifted in discomfort.

“Yup. That Hunter,” I said.

“Delish.”

“Hey, that’s my cousin.” Emma popped up. “But did you seethatguy?” She pointed to one of the servers, but the girls paid her no attention.

“My new gardener said Hunter’s living here.” Lexie removed the silky throw from her shoulders, lifting her new implants.

“Hunter’s here temporarily. You have a new gardener?”

“Pretty cute, but not as much muscle as Hunter. And he’s older, so not my type. Hey Ems, you go for older guys, don’t you? Maybe you should give Rick a try.” Carly lifted a margarita in the air.

“Sorry, but I don’t take seconds, Carly.” Emma winked.

I glanced over at Hunter. He was pacing between the palm tree and the bar, talking on his phone. When he finished, he looked up my way and walked over.

“Grace, I need to steal you for a moment.”

Carly cheered, and I rolled my eyes.

“What’s the matter?” I asked.

“They caught the attackers,” he whispered.

“Perfect.”

“Scar’s on his way, and I have a file at the house.”

“So go get the file.”

He pinched the bridge of his nose.

“I’ll be fine. I’ll wait here.”

“Will you please stay with the girls and Emma right there?”

“Yes—relax, Hunter. They found the bad guys. That’s good news.” I drew my hand down his thick arm, wanting to ease his worry.“I’ll be right there.” I pointed to the loungers. Then I walked back to the girls. Hunter kept his gaze on me for as long as he could, walking backward.

“Is he obsessed?” Carly fanned her face. “He must be. You know what that means, Grace? He’d ravage you in bed.”

Emma hopped off her seat. “Okay, this is my cousin we’re talking about, so I’m going to step away. I’m starving. Let’s get some of Olivier’s lobster rolls.” She grabbed my hand and pulled me off my seat, away from the group.“I thought you could use a break.”
