“Yes. Would you like to help make it come true?”

His body tensed and his eyes darkened. The heat of him wrapped itself around my limbs, coaxing desire in my groin. He brushed his hand up my arm to my cheek, the rough pads of his fingers tracing heat over my skin.

“I’ll do my best.”

His throaty voice sent shivers down my spine.

“But I should go down. I mean, weshould go downstairs before the bugs come out.” He shuddered, like he hated the thought of bugs, and the moment was gone.

“You live in a rainforest, and you’re afraid of bugs?” I asked.

“Ask me again when a giant tarantula gets up your shorts.”

The blood drained from my face.

“Or a beetle, but that’s not as bad as a wood scorpion.”

“Scorpion?”

Now I understood the need for all the mesh around the house.

“The sting isn’t fatal, but you’ll feel it for days.”

I shot up to my feet.“Let’s go downstairs.”

I didn’t wait for Hunter to tell me about all the other critters, and hurried down the ladder without missing a step. I was getting better at this climbing thing. He closed the latch on the roof and met me in the main room, where an oval bed with a canopy mesh was set across from the darkening rainforest view. Lights twinkled around the home’s perimeter, and crickets chirped.

“Go shower. I’ll make something to eat and meet you in the kitchen.”

“Shower in the waterfall?”

“No, in the washroom.”

“What?”

“Shower in the washroom.”

“You have a washroom?”

He laughed. “I’m surprised you haven’t asked about it. Wait—did you think I pooped in the bushes and bathed in the river?”

“Of course that’s what I thought. You bathed in the river in the village. I… I don’t know what to think about you anymore, Hunter Silver. You’ve turned into a caveman, a bear, and Tarzan all at the same time.”

“Tarzan? I thought you’d peg me for John Robinson.”

The patriarch of the Swiss Family Robinson? Why would he have mentioned a family man?

“Then… then why did you let me bathe in the waterfall?”

“If you recall, I was sleeping, and you ventured out on your own.”

I expelled a breath through my nostrils. He stood in front of me grinning, his bright eyes focused on mine.

“So, are you going to show me the washroom, or do I need to bathe in the waterfall underneath the moon?”

“Sounds… intriguing.”

“And dangerous. Washroom?”
