“And why exactly is that?” I’m coming at Nico. But it could just as easily be Castor. “Did you spend your time talking about the judicial system with her? Or how you’re going to pass her off to fucking Soren?”

“See?” Castor walks by me to the door. He reaches above the door frame, pulling a key off the molding.

“What are you doing?”

“Going in.”

“No, you’re not. She locked the damn door for a reason.” I glare at the key, ready to grab his wrist if it comes anywhere near the lock.

“Kai has a habit of locking herself in rooms and falling asleep. It drove her mates nuts when she didn’t answer the door. They put the key there to check on her. That’s all I’m going to do is check on her.”

“Well she’s not asleep.” I motion to the door.

“No.” He looks at me over his shoulder.

“Did you knock?” I raise my eyebrows at him.

He knocks.

Her muffled voice comes through the door. “Go away.”

Castor’s shoulders slump.

I look at Nico with a cock of my head. He’s fuming too. And passing out a round of scowls for all of us.

“That’s clear enough. Put it back. Belle isn’t asleep like Kai. She’s pissed. Pissed at the two of you.”

“The three of us.”

“Don’t include me in your party. I’m not part of your pod.”

“Neither is he.” Nico pushes at Castor’s shoulder, and I know exactly where this is going.

“Cut it out.” I step in between them but not before Castor’s fist hits my chin. “You blob fish, I’m going––”

Nico’s fist comes over me, hitting Castor in the chest but grazing my shoulder. I pivot and punch Nico in the stomach. Here, he’s not my commander. Not in the dome.

“What the—” Galen, one of Ophelia’s mates, is back, and Castor loses focus, allowing Nico to land a punch in his gut.

And then we’re swinging. I’m not sure who I’m hitting. The punches are coming out of me like a blur. One of them lands a fist on my nose, and I punch another in their eye. It goes on for minutes and hours. When I look up, there are five of Castor’s fathers standing watching.

“All right, that’s enough.” Castor’s Da pulls Nico off of me.

Constantine has my hands pinned behind my back, and Galen has Castor pinned against the wall. “Are you done?” Galen asks.

No one answers. But Castor spits a mouthful of blood onto the floor. His green eyes narrow at us.

“I’ll take that as a yes. Now, luckily, you three acting like teenagers doesn’t come as a surprise to me.”

“Reminds me of us.” Galen lifts his chin to his pod mate.

“I was thinking the same thing.” Castor’s Da laughs.

They all let us go at the same time, and I’m done fighting.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Annabelle is one-hundred percent mermaid if her hormones can make three friends like you go off. Get cleaned up. You’re going to have some explaining to do to her,” Galen growls at us, and I’m fourteen again.

Ophelia arrives down the corridor she glares at me but smiles when she turns back to Galen and Druin. “Meet me in the library.”
