I grimace. “Did they sanitize it?”

Jake laughs, overly loud. “You’re hilarious. Come on, I want to text a pic of us to Archer before he goes to bed. By the way, I saw your aunt Moira earlier over by the porta potty smoking a joint with some hipster dude.”

It’s going to be a long, long,longnight.

Taylor’s arms slip around me from behind, her hands linking on my chest and squeezing me tight. “The stars are beautiful.”

I spin around, tugging her against me before sliding my hands up the nape of her neck into her hair and covering her mouth with mine.

Her pulse flutters against my thumbs. I breathe her in, wanting nothing more than to sink into her scent, into the whisper of her fingertips trailing up my back, and the ardent way she returns my kiss like she’s starved for it.

But not quite yet. “Come on.” I pull away, linking her hand in mine and leading her through the dark woods, a faint glow coming from the stars gleaming overhead and some of the overflow illumination winding into the trees from the lights on the trail.

It’s after two a.m. The night air is cool, and the forest is mostly quiet, except for the occasional burst of laughter and the sift of conversation floating on the breeze from the direction of the camps, people still winding down even though the music ended two hours ago.

Her hand squeezes mine. “Are we going back to my tent?” Her space was set up farther into the trees, away from the main camps.

“You’ll see.” I took the liberty of switching out her smaller, three-person shelter for a larger, slightly more extravagant version. Most of the work was done last night, while she was having dinner with her family. More was added tonight, with the assistance of one of the techs who promised to keep it to himself.

She skips, bouncing slightly ahead of me. “Ooh, I love surprises.” Even in the shadows, her eyes gleam with excitement.

A few minutes later, the dim glow of battery-powered lanterns I placed on either side of the tent door comes into view.

She gasps and halts in her tracks. “What is this? This is different. This wasn’t here yesterday.” She peers up at me, eyes wide. “You did this?”

A smile tugs at my lips. “Come on.” I pull her inside.

The circular tent is broad enough that it can easily sleep ten. In one corner, a queen-sized cot is loaded with pillows and blankets. Next to it is a cooler with drinks and snacks. In the opposite corner rests an inflatable hip bath. Lights are strung around the ceiling, casting a light glow over everything.

She freezes in the doorway, taking in the space. “Is that a bath?”

“I have to warn you, it was warm an hour ago so it might be—”

She whips her shirt over her head.

My mouth goes dry.

“It could be an ice bath for all I care, I have been sweating all day.” She keeps yanking off clothes, her pants joining her shirt on the floor, and then her bra and underwear.

Completely unselfconscious, she saunters over to the tub, climbing in and sinking down into the water with a sigh.

Once her delicious curves are immersed, she gives me a saucy wink. “Are you going to just stand there, or are you going to help me wash my hair?”

I stumble in my haste to reach her and she releases a peal of laughter that shoots straight to my cock.

Thirty minutes later, we’re lying on the bed. She’s snuggled into my arms and I’m breathing in her hair.

“That was the best bath I’ve ever had.”

“Me too.”

She chuckles, propping herself up on an elbow to rub her lips against mine. “Thank you.”

“For what?”

She gestures to the tent. “Everything.” Her gaze drops, her fingers making aimless circles against my skin, fidgeting with the tree of life necklace against my chest.
