Orion and JJ don’t gear up. Walking me between them, they take me to a panel van in the underground garage. As soon as the door slides open, I’m living secret agent fantasies I didn’t know I had.

“This is where you work?” I climb in, sliding down the padded bench that takes up the side wall, facing a shallow desk and banks of monitors.

“We’d usually stay in the office or follow behind the guys in the van.” Orion drops into the rolling chair and starts flicking on devices. “Buuuuut…”

“No office,” JJ says coldly from the front seat. “Nathan.”

“Wait, what?” Orion’s feet bang the floor. “You met my brother? When? Why?”

I pat his knee. “He was at a social. Then I bumped into him when JJ brought me to grab files. And I think he put in an offer for—”

Orion drags me into his lap with a fierce whisper. “Stay away from Nathan.”

I shift to straddle his thighs and hug him tight. “Why would I look for him?”

“You won’t. He’ll look for you.”

“He won’t find me.” I pat his hair, going gooey over his concern. “Why do you hate him so much?”

I’m clear why I hate him—my instincts are good like that—but they’re biological brothers, so I’m curious why Orion doesn’t feel the love.

“Because Wyvern Pack is the only thing he’s never been able to take from me. Everything else…” Orion shudders. “I gave up fighting. He’s better than m—”

I shut him up with a kiss.

It’s good practice because I’m still not sure what the hell I’m doing. But when I taste his cider spice, sucking at that lush lower lip, Orion starts to purr.

It’s this soft, tentative sound somewhere between encouragement and fucking bliss.

Must be doing something right.

I kiss him until we’re gasping, shaking breaths, his fingers stroking my hips. When I finally try to pull away, he digs in harder. “Lilah.”

“He’s not better than you.” Won’t say it out loud, but I don’t think anyone’s better than Orion. He’s mine, my sunshine, and if Nathan needs reminding, I’ll remind him with my knives the next time he “accidentally” bumps into me.

JJ clears his throat.

Semi-guilty, Orion and I whirl.

Forgot the rest of the world existed.

JJ slipped to the back of the van, and he strokes his collar—his new anxiety tell.

“You okay?” I slide off Orion’s lap and move to him, watching for danger in his mood. “Are you uncomfortable with…”

“No.” He takes my wrist and rubs with both hands, slipping his thumbs under the leather bracelet I haven’t taken off and probably never will. “You’re not like… You’re Lilac.”

I smooth his hair, and he leans into my palm. “You still have to go to therapy.”

“Tomorrow.”

“Good.”

JJ stares at me and only me until his dark brows furrow and he has to release my wrist to cup his ear. “Recon showed targets in the warehouse. They’re going in now.”

The dreamy bubble pops.

I scamper to the bench while Orion tunes the monitors to the Wyvern channel. The screens flicker, then pop up views from the guys’ body cams.
