“I’m sending you a report.”
I scratch JJ’s scalp, loving his purr against my fingertips. “I told you. I’m not doing Wyvern House’s books. I—”
“Not that kind of report. It’s urgent.”
Grumbling, I click over to email. “What could possibly—”
My eyes bug at the pictures on the screen.
A gorgeous blonde with big, brown eyes. Her face is half hidden in a hooded sweatshirt, but she can’t hide from me.
Tall.
Toned.
And so fucking familiar, my hitched breath has JJ jumping to grab my shoulders. “Lilac? What’s wrong?”
With numb fingers, I touch her face on screen. “Sol.”
“We spotted your friend.” Hikaru’s sigh feathers my ear. “Marisol Redfang.”
My fluttering heart stops dead. “Can I see her?”
JJ and Hikaru make twin grumbles.
“That would be unwise,” Hikaru says.
“I want to see her.” I press her face.
The girl in the photo isn’t smiling.
I know that look.
Glancing slightly behind her, ducking her head.
She’s being chased.
I don’t care what her last name is.
Marisol’s my ride or die.
Just want to know where she’s been.
If she’s okay.
If I can help.
Hikaru keeps chirping in my ear, but my vision swirls.
My forehead beads with sweat.
“Lilac.” JJ sucks a breath through his teeth. “Your perfume.”
My belly quivers.
I press my stomach, suddenly sweating and soaking the room in sharp, toasty caramel.
Thought I was in shock, but no.
