Gage arched an eyebrow at me. “That depends.”

“On?”

“Are you mad?”

Laughter vibrated in my chest, and I launched myself into his arms, throwing my arms around his neck. “I can’t wait until she realizes what happened.” Still laughing, I pressed a hard, smacking kiss to his mouth. “Thank you.”

“Hey,” Ari said from behind me. “I helped.”

Releasing Gage, I turned to hug her as well, but I didn’t make it a single step before he hooked an arm around my waist and pulled me back.

“You can say whatever you want to say from here.”

Okay, his possessiveness was fucking hot. “Thank you, Ari. I’m really grateful for everything you did.”

She laughed, a sweet, musical sound that made me want to laugh again as well.

“I’m glad I could help, and I was serious about that follow-up. Do you still want to do the interview?”

“Not live?” I checked.

“Not live.”

“Sure.” It was the least I could do. “Let me know when, and I’ll be there.”

“Yay!” She did the cutest little shimmy, then practically bounced out of the room.

“Did I just make a friend?”

Gage snuggled against my back with a chuckle. “Looks like it. I think a lot of things are going to change for you now.”

A shiver worked its way down my spine when he whispered his lips over the side of my neck. I felt like he was probably right, but I wasn’t greedy. I wouldn’t ask for more. Not when I had already been given so much.

Closing my eyes, I leaned back against him and sighed contentedly.

This was all I needed. His arms around me. His warm breath against my skin. The feeling of his love surrounding me. Just that was enough.

Because Gage Ramsey was already the best change that had ever happened to me.

Epilogue

~ Gage ~

One year later…

To say Senator Fairfax had lost her bid for re-election would be putting it far too kindly. Watching her fall from grace had been one of the most brutal and satisfying things I had ever witnessed.

Almost overnight, she had gone from the front runner to the most hated person in the state.

There had been no way for her to deny or spin the words that had come from her own mouth. As the clip of her admitting to forcing Nathan into rehab just to win the last election gained traction, major news sources began picking up the story. By the end of the weekend, it had made national headlines.

Loyal supporters had turned on her like rabid dogs, demanding her resignation. There had been a half-hearted attempt at damage control, but as the country ushered in a new year, she had all but vanished from public view.

The livestream had also been the last time Nathan had spoken to his mother. I had worried he would have regrets about how their relationship had ended, but honestly, he seemed happier than ever.

He had graduated…with honors. He loved his new job, and there had already been talk of a promotion. His social circle had grown from just me to several new friends and acquaintances.

It hadn’t been easy to relinquish the title of best friend to Ari, but I couldn’t be mad. Besides, “boyfriend” came with a lot more privileges.
