“I’ll be fine. You go ahead and do whatever you need to do,” I said, giving him an out.

He didn’t need to be stuck to me at the hip.

“I’ll stay with her tonight,” promised Sona. “I won’t leave her side until you get back.”

Umm, why did everyone assume that DV was going to live with me from now? We were still feeling our way forward, and it was too soon for him to move in with me. Still, this was not the time to protest such an assumption because it’s not as if I’d kick him out if he came to me every night. I’d welcome him with open arms.

He studied me intently and I struggled to hide my anxiety. I didn’t know what he and Samar would be doing, but I hoped it wasn’t anything dangerous. Not that there was anything left to do but damage control. And Samar would make sure my Bond Boy didn’t get into trouble with the cops he was planning to browbeat into submission because I had plans for him that didn’t involve him becoming some big drug dealer’s bitch in prison.

“Stay safe and don’t do anything stupid,” he warned.

I crossed my arms and stuck a hip out. I mean, seriously?

“That should be my line,” I bit out. “You don’t do anything stupid.”

DV looked surprised.

“Like what?”

“Umm, I don’t know. Maybe don’t pick a fight with a cop?”

“When have I ever picked a fight with anyone?” he demanded.

“You pick fights with me all the time,” I argued.

“That’s because you drive me crazy!”

“Don’t try to sweet-talk your way out of this,” I scolded, trying not to show that I liked driving him crazy.

“That wasn’t a compliment,” he snarled.

And just like that, I wanted to sucker-punch him again. I did the next best thing.

I grabbed him by the neck of his t-shirt and kissed him.

CHAPTER14

DIGVIJAY

Iheard someone snigger in the background, but I didn’t know who it was. My brain stopped working the moment that Tasha stuck her tongue into my mouth, sending all the blood rushing down south.

All I could do was kiss her back with all my pent-up passion and pray this would never end. It did, and far too soon.

Samar clapped me on the shoulder hard enough to dislocate my shoulder.

“Move it, Romeo. We can’t keep the police waiting any longer. They are already pissed about the fact that my team covered the crime scene far better than theirs did. I don’t want to spend the whole of next week in jail,” he grumbled.

I pulled away from Tasha reluctantly and was pleased to see her look a little dazed. I wished we had tried solving our fights like this while we were engaged. Maybe we’d be married by now, and I wouldn’t be walking around with my frustrated dick cursing me out for letting him down again.

Sam and I headed for his car, while the girls settled down to watch some TV. We were in for a long night because first, we had to convince the cops at Panjim police station to keep Tasha’s involvement a secret, including any mention of the shrine in Vishal’s house that had her photos all over it. One way or another, we were going to bury her involvement in this matter.

Or so I thought.

Jaideep was waiting for us outside the station, and he didn’t look happy.

“What’s wrong?”

“The senior Inspector is a self-righteous pain in the ass,” he said grimly.
