“Allow me,” he murmured, pressing some more kisses down my spine.

I wanted to turn around and kiss him back, but two mind-blowing orgasms had a way of draining all the energy out of you. I fell asleep even as he was still wiping me clean.

CHAPTER18

DIGVIJAY

Ilay next to her for hours as she slept, her soft snores the most musical sound I’d ever heard. And that’s when I knew I had it bad.

During my training at RAW, I had a roommate who snored a little. And his little whistles and snorts had almost driven me to murder. But when Tasha snored, it warmed my heart. I was such an idiot.

Also, it didn’t seem to take much to loosen my tongue around her. I had held out against waterboarding once when I was on a mission for RAW, and yet, I had blurted out my feelings for Tasha so willingly. Maybe Inspector Sawant had slipped some truth serum into my cup of coffee when I wasn’t looking.

The woman was a flight risk. She had shown no signs of wanting a long-term relationship with me, but I was still sticking to her like a fungal infection that she just couldn’t kick. I had bared my heart to her, and she hadn’t said anything about how she felt about me. I knew she wanted me physically. But did she love me?

Oh. My. God. I was turning into a teenage girl. So what if she didn’t love me? We’d enjoy a nice fling, and go our separate ways when the fling was flung. I ignored the churning in my stomach at the thought of Tasha walking away from me. Again. The first time was bad enough. If she did it again, it would destroy me.

I turned to face the wall and punched my pillow to make it flat. All the pillows in Tasha’s house were soft, warm and fluffy. Just like her. Dammit! I had to stop this.

I was better than this, surely. Love wasn’t supposed to turn me into a sappy idiot. It was supposed to make me stronger. Love was supposed to give me purpose. I needed to figure out who was behind this all, find them, beat the crap out of them, and then hand them over to the cops alive. But first, I had to kiss the woman I loved. Just because.

When I turned over, I found Tasha staring at me. She gave me a sleepy smile and snuggled into my arms. I kissed the top of her head and was about to close my eyes when she spoke.

“DV, Vishal told his killer that it was all his fault. And that he made him do it. What did that mean?”

I tightened my arms around her.

“I’m not sure, babe. It could have been something that has no connection to this case. But it could also mean that the killer made him play the prank on you.”

She sat up abruptly and held the sheet up to her chest.

“Why would anyone do that? What would they gain out of it?”

I shrugged.

“I don’t know.”

“Do you think my mother had anything to do with it? She’s the only person with a grudge against me.”

My face hardened as I thought that through.

“It is possible. She is very vicious, and I wouldn’t put it past her. But you’re forgetting a very important fact. Your mother is in prison.”

“But… what if he was talking on the phone? DV! We haven’t considered that. What if Vishal was yelling at someone over the phone? That could explain how Sia only heardhisvoice, and not the killer’s.”

“In that case, who drugged him and strung him up?” I asked.

Tasha deflated like a balloon and then perked up again.

“Maybe she outsourced the job to a killer-for-hire. If there’s one place you could find a hitman, it would have to be in prison, right? It’s the ultimate marketplace for all things illegal.”

“I’ll make some enquiries,” I promised.

“If it is my mother, things are going to get very ugly,” she said worriedly.

I rubbed her back gently.

“You’re not alone this time. We’re in this together, and we have a whole army of people who love us at our backs. We’ll deal with whatever your mother throws at us.”
