“What?” Kane asks, shaking his head. “No. This is Gem. G-E-M not J-I-M.”

“I thought Jim was a guy,” Quin says harshly. “Not Gemma fucking Smith.”

“How do you know her?” Kane queries just as Riley sarcastically asks the agent, “How do you know Gemma?”

Holy fucking shit.

I feel like I’m having an out-of-body experience, and I’m suddenly so fucking happy that I’m sitting down. Also, I have never treasured yet despised the no names rule as much as I do right this very moment.

“From school. Just like you…” Quin trails off when Riot smirks at me. “Or maybe you know her from somewhere else?”

Riley opens his mouth to speak, but thinks better of it when I tilt my head. Lory moves to stand at my side, several feet to the right, keeping himself between me and the rest of the guys in the room. I don’t miss the way he cuts his eyes at me, trying to grasp why I’m not getting on with my warning.

But I’m sort of stalling out right now… I need to reboot, so I’m giving them a minute to talk about me like I’m not actually in the fucking room.

Quin stares at Riley suspiciously, like he caught that moment between us. Then he turns his skepticism toward Kane, who is looking at everyone like he’d rather be anywhere else. I’m not even sure he’s noticed the gun in my lap yet.

It’s Ezra who finally breaks the silent standoff. “They’re friends, Quin. Chill the fuck out.”

“I… hire her sometimes,” Riot fills in.

I give him an unimpressed glower.

“Dude. Is she an escort?” Quin whisper-shouts at his cousin. “Have you been paying for sex?”

“No. That’s not what I meant, you fucking idiot.” Riley sighs. “Sit down and shut up, so she can tell us why she’s here.”

This is a problem.

But glancing around the room, I realize Quin and his mouth aren’t the only problems to address.

The coffee table has a tray on it, lines of coke ready to snort, and a forgotten credit card tossed beside it.

“Are you—”

“No,” Riley cuts me off before I finish. “I’m not snorting coke with him.”

“That’s not mine,” Kane adds.

“Nope,” Ezra agrees.

They all look at each other, and I sigh. The urge to stab Quin for causing this issue bubbles up inside me, making my fingers twitchy.

“That’s against the rules.” I quietly warn, leaving out the names of who it’s pointed at.

Technically, Ezra isn’t mine. But I don’t like the idea of him breaking the most important rule I have. His pot smoking is one thing; it’s easier to overlook as long as I can’t smell it. Coke, though? No. Absolutely not.

“What rules?” Quin demands. “Why is she looking at all of you like that?”

“Here we fucking go,” Riot whispers to Ezra.

“There goes my Wednesday night.” Kane mumbles, causing Riley to raise a questioning brow.

“Really, Gem?” Lory asks, tossing his hand toward the couch. “Really?”

I don’t even know what to say to him right now. Or them… We only came to get our drugs back from Quin, and that entire purpose derailed because of my sex life.

“Why is everyone keeping secrets from me?” the man of the hour complains.
