“Can I get you something to drink?” the hostess asked.

“No, I won't be staying.”

“Come on, Nyla.” Cassandra turned, grabbing my hand to escort me out.

“Vincenzo is only babying you until he can get rid of your uncle,” Angelina spat.

Panic set in at her knowing our business. “What?”

Angelina sloped her head to the side. “I heard him.”

“Heard what?”

“Vincenzo and his brothers, talking about your uncle’s plans.”

“Angelina, you have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“The more you push him away, the more he tells me things.” Angelina’s lips turned into a taunting grin.

“Vincenzo assured me that you no longer work with him, and his dick belongs to me.” I got in her face.

“For now—but he knows when the baby comes, I’m going to be wearing that ring,” Angelina taunted.

I struck up my hand to smack her across the face, but Cassandra pulled me back before I made contact.

“Please hit a pregnant woman and see what happens to you,” Angelina pushed.

“What evidence do you have of Vincenzo being the father? Even you being pregnant is farfetched.”

Sticking her hand in her purse, she pulled out a pregnancy test and laid it on the table.

“Ewe, that’s nasty,” Cassandra shivered.

“Keep your lies and the fake pregnancy test to yourself; we’re good.” As I walked away, I felt my heart drop at him having a baby with her.

“You don’t believe her, do you?” Cassandra stopped me at the door.

“I mean it’s weird she’s still around after he said she was gone.”

“Nyla, don’t let her get under your skin.” Cassandra reached out to pull me in for a hug.

“Thanks. Let’s get to your place before I forget.”

“Well, hopefully, Gianney will be a little saner.” Cassandra slapped hands with me, and we locked our arms together.

Talking with Cassandra reminded me to give Vincenzo a heads-up. Carter stopped outside her building, and I went to unbuckle my seatbelt.

“Keep your hands in the air!” a masked man suddenly demanded.

“Oh, my God!”

“Cassandra, relax.”

“What you’re doing won't end well,” Carter announced, and I looked out of the window searching for anyone I could signal, when my eyes squinted at the end of the street, seeing Gianney standing there, smoking a cigarette.

“Wait! Carter, it's fine.”

“Nyla, what are you saying?” Cassandra hissed at me, tears rolling down her cheek.
