In a way, Mark had been controlling and possessive, making me feel afraid because of his need for money, and he always said that if I cared about him, then I would give him anything to help him. Vincenzo felt different. It was a strange connection I couldn't explain. Despite our hatred for each other in the beginning, I felt like he wanted to protect me on some level.

Slamming the door behind me, my reaction to pout and throw a tantrum came naturally. Exhaling a long breath, he ignored me and continued texting on his phone.

“Stay away from Gianney Greco.”

“You don’t get to tell me who my friends are.”

“I just did.”

I swiftly turned, leaned over the seat, and got in his face. “And I said no.” I watched his eyes bounce up from my lips again. Tension in the car, my stubbornness, his possessiveness, and not having him around the condo pissed me off.

He turned his head and checked back down at his phone. “Sit back and put on your seatbelt.”

Something came over me, and I snatched his phone from his hand and tossed it in between my breasts, then sat back in my seat, ignoring him.

He growled. “Give me my phone Nyla and stop acting childish.”

“Gianney Greco is my friend. Why are you keeping from me?”

“All you need to worry about is getting along with your uncle.” Vincenzo held out his hand for the phone.

I taunted him. “What do you want?”

“My phone.”

I slapped his hand high-five. “Tonight, you promised me a date. No phones.”

“You realize we are not a real couple.” A smirk formed.

“You realize I never asked to marry you,” I countered.

He chuckled at my response and for the first time I could see the boyish look in his demeanor. “Dinner only.”

“Same thing.”

“Woman, you are batshit crazy.” Vincenzo grumbled, and I cackled at his pout.

Removing the phone from my blouse, I said, “Here, you crybaby.”

“Serious about Greco.”

“Be real with me, Vinny.”

His brows creased together in a frown. “Don’t call me that.”

“Angelina calls you Vinny.”

“She doesn’t mean anything to me.”

“Oh.”

“My brother found out that Greco and your uncle met up once.”

“So.”

“Think he’s in on the robbery.”

“Gianney’s always been kind to me.”
