Two steps. Wynvail pitched suddenly into my side, his weight nearly knocking him from my hands, ripping a cry from my lips.

Blood streaked his cheeks, running from his eyes.Oh gods.

"Stop it!" I screamed at Cronus. "Stop it!"

He failed my tasks. He deserves to be punished.

"He's mine," I snarled, Kai and I wrenching him back up, forging on.

One step.

Emlyn and Harvey were out, surrounded by grass and flowers, safe.Relief choked off all my air. I tightened my grip on Wynvail, refusing to leave him behind.

Kai and I threw ourselves at the opening—

And ground to a halt when three figures stepped in front of us

Cronus's voice shook the Labyrinth with its rage.Leave him!

I exchanged a panicked glance with Kai, adamant and scared all at once.I can't leave him. Please.

"I know, my rose."

But the people in front of us throbbed with power, obviously mythical—something far beyond demons, angels, and humans. One had snakes for hair and an old, wrinkled face. One was tall with a black dog's head, her teeth bared in a sharp grin. The third had bat's wings and skin as dark as coal, her eyes blood-shot red and a hideous, hungry smile on her face.

Erinyes.

"The Furies," I breathed.

Itried to push Haley behind me, but she was having none of it. If it wouldn't have hurt my mate, I'd have thrown Wynvail at the Furies and run while they were distracted. He was a monster, pure, true evil. He'd terrorised us for a hundred years, and not once during those years did he mention Haley's name even though he knew who she was the whole time. Not only did he force us to fight each other, he stood back and did nothing as we lost our memories, our mate, and ourselves.

I was going to kill him; it was just a matter of when, and how I could make it look like an accident. My rose would never forgive me if she found out, but what she didn't know wouldn't hurt her.

The Furies would definitely hurt her, though. They scared the shit out of the most hardened demons, and that was when they were a story, a legend, not standing right in front of you. Snakes snapped at us in the place of hair, making my own snakes shudder in fear; a too-wide smile on the old woman made my feet itch with the urge to grab my mate and run; and the worst of all of them was a tall, slender woman with a dog's head, silver teeth, and a sharp tongue flicking out like she wanted to taste us on the air.

Like she was thinking about tearing into our bodies and devouring our organs. The visceral picture that painted in my head made me edge closer to Haley, gripping Wynvail so tight he moaned in pain. Good. I hope he died of fright; that would save me a job.1

"Leave me…" he murmured pathetically.

"Shut up, or I'll sew your mouth shut so you can't talk," Haley snarled, panic making her words flow rapidly. We didn't have time to sew the asshole's mouth, but that was what I admired about my mate; she was so violently ambitious.

My chest filled with buoyant love. Inappropriate when faced with the Erinyes, but I didn't give a shit. I loved my mate. I'd kill for her. I had before, and I would again. Right now, in fact.

I sucked in a slow breath and gathered a new den of snakes from my magic as the dog-headed Fury opened her mouth and garbled something about handing over the bastard. You're welcome to him. You'd be doing me a favour if you ate him.

But Haley gripped him tighter, her breathing racing, so I kept the words trapped behind my teeth. On my next exhale, I released ten yellow bellied sea snakes. Only I could see them, their bodies black as a void with vivid yellow undersides, jaws open and fangs dripping venom as they soared through the air.

I sent two at the woman with snakes for hair, two at the one with the petrifying smile, but sent the bulk of the den at the hound in the middle of their trio. I was used to a few snakes missing their target, but most always struck true. I wasn't prepared for all but two to miss and for the Fury's hands to snap out and grip the remaining snakes, squeezing their throats until they choked.

I stumbled back, clutching my chest as an awful gurgling came from me. Pain lashed through my chest, sudden and deep.

Wynvail ended up tipping onto the floor, grunting in pain. It was gratifying as fuck when Haley swung towards me and rushed past his crumpled form to grab my shoulders.

"Kai! What's wrong?" Her face drained of colour, my pain obviously reaching her through the bond.
