"Megaera!" Emlyn boomed. "I'll make a bargain with you."

"You willnot,"Haley snapped, slashing with her daggers, fighting like a hellcat to free herself.

But the Fury paused at his offer, her wings stilling. Her elongated mouth was hideous, petrifying. A shiver skated down my spine even as I threw myself after Haley—and right into the path of the snake-haired woman. Fuck.

I really should have paid more attention to Emlyn's books; I might have known their names, their weaknesses. Instead, I cast a horde of snakes out blindly, veering around her, my eyes fixed on my mate as the dog-headed Fury tried to drag her off.

"Stop," Wynvail said pathetically, leaning against the wall and looking pathetically anguished. "Stop fighting. Just leave me, I'll be fine."

I wanted to kick his head in. Haley had just had a breakdown over losing him. Harvey had drained his magic dry to keep the bastard alive. And he wanted us toleave him here?

I used my vipers to yank Haley three inches to the left when the Fury's snakes lashed at her. What would their bite do? Paralyse? Incapacitate? Kill?

It was suddenly hard to breathe, and all I could do was lunge towards Haley and push her to safety.

Haley staggered out of Fury’s path, splaying against the Labyrinth wall, but I'd left myself open like an idiot. I stiffened when a hand closed around my throat and squeezed so hard I sputtered out a breath.

Haley froze.

Harvey snarled and—Harvey! He was conscious again.

My heart leapt even though there was a hand ruthlessly gripping my throat. I speared my stare past the Furies to find Emlyn helping Harvey to his feet. His eyes locked on mine, the feral edge of insanity in those eyes made me grin. A troublemaker's grin; Harvey matched it.

"Kai!" Haley screamed when I threw my elbow back into the Fury's stomach and grabbed her claws with both hands, fighting to drag them away from my throat. I cut up my fingertips, but I slammed my foot down on the bastard's foot and she screeched.Yeah, no matter your species, getting stomped on your instep hurts like a bitch.I followed it up with another blow to the stomach and sent three snakes at her eyes for good measure.

I was able to wrench the Fury’s hand away and spin out of her path, a shallow slice on my neck but nowhere near painful enough to keep me down. Unfortunately, I placed myself far from Wynvail. Leaving him alone—with a vicious Fury too damn close.

"Fuck," I groaned, my conscience attacking me, forcing me to go back for him. I was too fucking nice sometimes. All for Haley,I reminded myself. I didn't want to see her upset again, didn't want to watch the light leave her eyes. She might have hated Wynvail but she was attached to him, too.

When I was so close I could grab him, the winged Fury stepped in front of me, giving me a smile that made me want to throw up. "He's not worth your effort. Traitor. Coward. Oath breaker."

Wynvail laughed, clawing his way to his feet, slumping into the wall for balance. Haley lunged closer, freezing beside me, both of us staring at Megaera. "Oath breaker? I followed—every damn order."

"But you left her mates alive," Megaera argued fiercely. "You swore a false oath. And all the other times you've lied? You need to pay for those, too."

"Everyone lies," Haley growled, darting forward so suddenly I couldn't stop her. She jammed her dagger all the way into Megaera's side, drawing—black blood. Oh, shit.

I grabbed my mate, pulling her back as she stared at the black blood coating her blade. Yeah, it was freaking me out, too. Were Furiessupposedto bleed black, or had Cronus poisoned them? My power shuddered, rumbling through the ground until it trembled, too. None of the Furies seemed concerned that the maze was shaking.

"Stay back, Emlyn Johahn," Tisiphone's deep, throaty voice came behind us.

"Get fucked, Tisiphone," he growled back.

I smiled. I was having such a positive effect on him.

"Everyone lies," Megaera mused, clicking her long claws together. The sound sent a shudder down my spine. "But not everyone commits patricide."

Wynvail sucked in a sharp breath, leaning heavier on the wall. We were frustratingly close to the exit, only Tisiphone and the third Fury between us and freedom.

"Patricide?" Haley echoed, not removing her deadly glare from Megaera but her attention sliding to Wynvail. I sensed it, and judging by the way he stiffened, he did too. "You told us Cronus killed Locke."

"He liessss," Megaera hissed, her jaw detaching, hanging open. My stomach turned over. I grabbed Haley's arm, my heart sprinting.

We were so fucking close to the exit. Too close to turn back. And a Fury bled black blood in front of us.

"Get fucked," Wynvail snapped, fire reigniting in him. I hated that I understood him right now, because Iknewthat viciousness was a defence mechanism. "You wanna keep me? Fine. Let my mate go."

"Not on the table," Haley argued, pointing her dagger at him. "It's all or none."
