There was no way that was a coincidence that both Greyson and Carter had decided to get them for me. If it really was random, I needed to examine what about me made me seem like a tiger lily girl.

Although Iwasone.

Carter's gaze shifted from the bouquet to me, and he didn’t seem to notice my unease, because there was an awe struck look in his gaze and he was taking his time staring at me, his mouth opening and closing several times like he couldn’t figure out what to say.

"You're stunning," he said, his voice rough, like it was hard for him to form words. "Prettiest thing I've ever seen in my whole life."

Carrie pushed past me, mouthing "Told ya" over her shoulder with a smug grin as she headed towards the door. She stopped in front of Carter, pointing two fingers at her eyes and then at him. I’m sure she was trying to be all fierce and protective. But it was actually hilarious.

Carter gave her a little salute and she pretended to swoon.

“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” she yelled as she left the apartment.

“Why do I have the feeling that isn’t actually a cautionary statement?” mused Carter.

Before I could say anything she popped her head back in the doorway. “Because it isn’t,” she sang. “Now, make sure to fuck my best friend good.”

With that cheery statement, she popped out of view, leaving me an embarrassed mess and wishing there was a rock to hide under because…

COULD SHE BE ANY MORE EMBARRASSING.

Carter snorted, his face a little shell-shocked as most people were after they met my best friend.

“Well, on that note, should we go?” he asked, holding out a hand for me to take.

“You know, for five years, my life was pretty boring. And now—”

“Now what?” he asked as he pulled me towards him until I was plastered against his hard chest.

“Now it feels like I’ve turned into Cinderella and I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop.”

“Cinderella ended up happily ever after,” he murmured in what could be the sexiest voice I’d ever heard. I would have to have Jack, Sebastian—and Greyson repeat the phrase just to check.

For research purposes, of course.

Carter kissed me deep, his tongue tasting me with long, languorous sweeps. He kissed me like he never wanted to stop, like he couldn’t get enough. Like he had last night when he’d blown my mind in the locker room.

I was pretty sure he’d short circuited my brain when he finally pulled away, and I took a step away, trying to clear my head.

They were all so…much. It was hard to think around them. Like they had this aura that messed with my senses every time I was around them.

It would explain why I kept letting them come around even though I just knew they were hiding things from me.

“Ready to go?” he asked.

“Yeah, let me grab my purse and put these flowers in a vase,” I told him, walking the few feet to the counter to grab the black clutch Carrie had brought over for me to use.

My faded brown purse from Kohls wouldn’t exactly have gone with this outfit.

I felt his questioning gaze on my back as I slipped the bouquet in with the flowers Greyson had given me the other day.

“Thank you for the flowers,” I murmured as I turned around

Carter’s gaze hovered on the flowers a moment, but he didn’t say anything. He just grabbed my hand and led me out of the apartment. They all did that, taking my hand like it was nothing. And considering that there were four of them…

Their hands all seemed to fit in mine so perfectly considering how different they all were.

He let me go long enough to lock up the door, but when I glanced up at him, I cringed when I saw how angrily he was staring at the door.
