Charlie’s face transforms into a rare smile, his eyes flicking between each of us. “Fuck, who’d have thought it, boys.” He tips his chin. “Wasn’t sure we’d get here at points.”

Elliot snorts. “I was sure it was all over on that jet ski. I won’t lie.”

I tip my head back and laugh, feeling the heaviness melt away.

“To the boys,” Mason says, reaching for the glass and taking a swig.

Elliot follows, lifting the glass. “The boys.”

He passes it to me, and I take a sip and then hand it to Charlie. “The boys.”

Charlie drains the glass.

We’re on the dance floor when my husband and his groomsmen find us. They disappeared over an hour ago, Lance telling me he’d be back soon as he fought to break his lips from mine.

Ave, of course, demanded Lance dance with her the second she spotted him. I’m not sure I’ve ever been as in love with them as I am today.

It was the night I got caught in the rain on the way to Elliot’s that I decided to make the memorial ball something more.

Our wedding day.

I didn’t bother changing the guest list, having only asked the people most important to the family to the ball anyway.

To say our guests were shocked when they arrived to find us married is an understatement.

Mia and Annie both made it, their shared happiness hitting me square in the chest as they showered me in their unrelenting love and support.

Everyone who’s here is happy for us today.

I’mhappy for us.

“Mrs Lowell-Sullivan.”

I spin, finding Nina approaching me on the dance floor.

“A dance, please, if you will.”

I pull her close, our arms tangling as we cling to one another. “Anything for my favourite sister-in-law,” I gush.

She giggles, turning her head to look at me. Her eyes look glassy, like she had one too many glasses of champagne. “You fucking rock, you know that.” She kisses my cheek hard. “You’re probably the most beautiful bride I’ve ever seen.”

“I’m pretty sure you’ve told all of the girls that on their wedding days.”

“Shh. Let me love you.”

I chuckle, holding her tighter as we sway to the music. “I can’t ever put it into words what it means, you know,” I tell her over the music. “Thank you, Nina,” I add, my voice softer.

“What for?” She frowns as she pulls back.

“Lots of things.” I roll my lips as emotion builds in my throat, my mind throwing me right back to that first night when Mason brought her home to meet Dad and me. The way she pulled up at the kitchen island, told me we were going out for my birthday, and then never left me alone after it. “Your kindness, patience, and love.” I smile. “But mostly for not letting me fall.”

Her arms go slack at her sides, her eyes shining with tears. “Scar,” she warns.

“I know. Let’s not cry anymore today.”

She grasps my arm, stopping me when I try to pull her back to me to dance.
