“That bastard stole from us! He dishonored our family! You just don’t want to admit you’re stupid enough to believe his lies.” The demon’s eyes narrowed. “I don’t care who you have protecting you. We are going to end you and make you pay for what you’ve done.”

A sudden screech of metal made everyone at the table jump to their feet, and Kingston barely had time to flinch before the construction crane being used in the rehab came flying through the air at an impossible rate of speed. The heavy piece of equipment slammed down directly on top of the red Ferrari, crushing it completely. Everyone stood frozen in shock, while one of the demon brothers collapsed onto the ground with a cry of anguish.

“My car! Son of a bitch, look at my fucking car!”

Movement had Kingston glancing over at the center of the large driveway, and his jaw dropped open when he saw who was standing there. Autumn was several feet away, dressed in a pink shirt that had two dancing cupcakes printed on the front, faded jeans, and a pair of white sneakers. He felt her presence against his skin like a physical caress, but she looked so different that it made his heart stutter in fear.

Kingston knew her every feature better than his own. He had counted every freckle on her face and had mentally traced the small birthmark on her arm shaped like a tiny heart countless times since he’d known her.

But now, it felt as though he was staring at a stranger.

Her shoulder-length brown hair was now a glorious mass of gleaming dark waves that cascaded down to her waist, and her amber eyes were now glowing gold. Even her skin seemed to shimmer and pulse with waves of power, like there was so much magic inside of her small body that she couldn’t contain it all.

Autumn had always been beautiful, but now, she was breathtakingly gorgeous in the ethereal way of the immortals. Her glowing eyes blazed with emotion as they locked on him, then she abruptly turned away and focused on the Larkin brothers. Her expression changed, hardening to a vicious glare. When she opened her lush lips to speak, her voice rang out with a power so strong it almost drove everyone to their knees.

“How dare you threaten my mate,” she hissed. “If anyone is going to pay, it’s you!”

What the hell was going on, Kingston thought frantically, unaware that he’d actually spoken out loud until someone answered him.

“That’s what I was trying to tell you before we were interrupted. Autumn doesn’t need you to protect her anymore,” Huxley informed him gleefully. “Congratulations, buddy, you are now mated to the new Goddess of Revenge, and she seems hellbent on getting a little payback on your behalf.”

Chapter Seven

Autumn’s entire bodytrembled with rage, and her mind was a red haze as she glared at the two demons cowering in front of her.

How dare they try to hurt her mate.

They deserved a painful death for that alone, and she immediately regretted crushing their car instead of just destroying them. She wanted to hurt them, to make them bleed until they were screaming in agony. She wanted their pain so bad she could almost taste it on her tongue, and her fury would only be eased once they were pleading for forgiveness at her mate’s feet.

Although she’d had feelings for Kingston since the day they’d met, there hadn’t been anything between them besides her own wishful thinking. At least, that was what she’d always believed. But the moment she’d arrived at the fire station today, she’d felt the invisible threads of fate binding them together.

Kingston was her mate.

There was no more doubt or uncertainty left in her mind.

Now that she knew he belonged to her, she would never let him go. In an instant, he had become vital to her existence. He was her one and only, the perfect partner to walk through life together with, and the other half of her soul.

While their bond made her deliriously happy, knowing that he’d been aware of their connection and had deliberately hidden it from her made her extremely angry. In fact, she was so furious that she had to hold herself back from destroying everything around her.

Well, not her mate or her friends, of course.

And she couldn’t destroy the fire station either. That would just be wrong. Or the neighborhood since she couldn’t hurt any innocent people. Fuck it, she had to learn how to do this whole revenge thing better. Accuracy was key when it came to being a god, so she focused all of her attention on the targets standing right there in front of her.

Her mate’s enemies.

By the gods, she wanted to tear them to shreds with her bare hands, and that brutal craving made her uneasy. She’d never felt this kind of bloodlust before. Rationally, she knew there was a right way and a wrong way to proceed, and she had to be careful about giving in to her dark desires. More than that, she had to set her own boundaries, or she would surely lose herself and risk corrupting her magic.

Autumn had been working hard to understand her new powers over the last few days. After careful consideration, she had discovered that the more she used them, the more everything became clear to her. All the knowledge she ever needed had been given to her by the magical source, but she didn’t have to try so hard to learn how to use it.

She just had to trust that she already knew.

That had been a hard concept to wrap her human brain around, but being a god meant that she needed to expand her awareness. It might have seemed strange and contradictory, yet that was her new reality.

Weird was her new normal.

Using her god powers was vastly different than her former witch abilities. She only had to will something to happen rather than actively using spells or whispering incantations. While that might have been easier, she’d also found that she had to be extremely cautious since it was much more dangerous. She had to be careful about what she said or face unintended consequences happening and risk hurting innocent people.

Although it seemed as if she could accomplish anything with her god powers, she hadn’t exactly tested the limits yet. While that would take time to figure out, she could tell that more complicated tasks drained her energy faster than using her magic for smaller things.
