Thankfully, she recovered quickly.

That was just one of the benefits of being immortal.

Her powers of revenge were a little more elusive and harder to figure out. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. It all depended on if someone had an incident in their past that was worthy of her attention. If there was, a replaying of the event flashed through her mind as if she were watching a movie clip.

She had figured that out when some of the members of the Bazin pack had triggered her gift, and the first time it had happened had totally freaked her out.

There had been a shy owl shifter with an abusive ex who had joined the Bazin pack a few months ago. Thankfully, he had left the abusive jaguar shifter after the first and only time he’d beaten him. Once Autumn had seen the replay of what the ex had done, she immediately teleported to his shitty apartment where she had paid him back in kind.

It was like she’d been acting on autopilot, and it had both thrilled and terrified her.

The bastard hadn’t seen it coming, and the results had been thoroughly satisfying. Every blow and kick the jaguar shifter had received was a deeper and more severe replica of the marks he had left on the owl shifter’s body. Added to that, she’d made sure his injuries had to heal naturally and couldn’t be fixed using magic. He would have a lot longer to ponder the error of his ways, but it would be up to him to learn from this experience.

The other pack member who had triggered her power had been a sad-eyed witch who’d had her mother’s prized jewelry collection stolen from her. She hadn’t been able to prove who had taken it, but Autumn had confirmed that it had been her greedy brother who had been selling off the pieces to cover his gambling debts.

Autumn had wished she could help return the jewelry collection to the witch. Before she could figure out how to make that happen, all of the items had simply appeared on the table in front of her. But that hadn’t felt like proper revenge to her. It had pleased her immensely to find out that the pawn shop owner had decided the greedy brother had stolen the items back and was now out for his blood. The debt collectors had also gone after him to recover what he owed them.

While she had been pleased to settle the pack members’ past grievances, nothing would be more satisfying than figuring out how to get revenge for Kingston. Of course, she had heard about his past before. He’d been open and honest with the entire Bazin family about being falsely convicted. Autumn had always believed him, but witnessing the truth of what had happened was beyond validating.

As soon as she had arrived at the fire station, Kingston’s memories had swamped her. It wasn’t just one event that had replayed in her mind. It was a complete recollection of everything that had happened in connection to the robberies he had been wrongly convicted of. The scenes had flashed through her mind so rapidly that it had made her feel a little nauseous.

Then, the rage had set in.

His situation was far more complex than the other situations she had dealt with so far, and it would take time to unravel all of the different layers to be able to prove the truth to the world. However, it had to be done, no matter how long it took. What had been done to Kingston was completely deplorable, and she wouldn’t rest until she had given him the justice he deserved.

And now these demons dared to threaten him?

Unable to contain her fury, power surged out of her. The ground shook until the pavement cracked and shifted under the demons’ feet, driving them both to their knees. As she started toward them, she heard someone mutter a vicious curse.

A few seconds later, Autumn felt strong arms wrap around her. She instantly knew it was Kingston by the way her skin felt branded by the heat of his touch. A wave of intense desire shot through her, distracting her from her prey. She didn’t forget about them, though.

She simply made a mental note to deal with them later.

Autumn felt Kingston’s magic reaching out to her as he attempted to force her to leave with him. It wouldn’t work, not when their power levels were so unequal now. Instead, she did the honors herself, teleporting them away from the fire station without a word to the others. She wanted Kingston somewhere safe where anyone who wished him harm couldn’t reach him, and the best place she could think of was the new home she had constructed a few days ago.

Rather than risk Jordan’s safety by staying with her in their fairy cottage, Autumn had used her magic to create a new home for herself. She had chosen a secluded area on the edge of Bazin pack land. Actually, she had appropriated a small portion of land that had technically been part of the national park but now belonged to her.

Her new magical cottage was nestled in a deep ravine so that it blended into its surroundings. It was naturally protected by rock walls covered with thick moss and a series of small waterfalls which were fed by the fast-flowing river that bordered the pack’s land. She had chosen that particular location since it was well-protected and almost impossible to get to without using magic.

She’d had fun building the cottage, adding bridges over the waterfalls and tiers of covered decks where she could relax and hang out with her friends. Taking Jordan and the Bazin family’s suggestions, she had even added flower and vegetable gardens and a small stand of fruit trees.

While Devlin had explained that she no longer needed to eat as regularly as she used to, some habits would be harder to break. She wasn’t sure if she could ever give up on baking and eating sweets, either.

Not to be outdone, Devlin and Miya had added a few flourishes themselves, enhancing her gardens with things that could only be found in the Hell and Celestial Realms. She loved the bright colors of the glowing blooms and weeping vines. Their additions made the cottage look otherworldly, and she enjoyed how unique and special her new home had become.

She’d been pleased when a few of the pixie families who lived on the pack’s land had showed up and asked permission to move onto her property. They had expressed their willingness to pledge their loyalty to her and had promised to take care of the home and gardens for her. She’d agreed, even though she wasn’t used to the idea of having people serve her and she was worried she might accidently hurt them while she was learning how to control her new powers.

Pixies gained energy from the residual magic in the air. They also fed off the magic that was infused in dew and other vegetation. Because of that, the pixies would benefit from being around her new god powers, which would keep them happy and healthy in return for their service.

Since it was a mutually beneficial relationship, she had felt much better about it.

At Devlin and Miya’s insistence, Autumn had encircled the entire area with layers of protection. Not only would it hide the cottage from view, it would also give her fair warning if anyone approached the property. The reaper and the dark angel had used the creation of the safeguards as a training exercise for her to figure out how her powers worked.

As she put up the layers of protection, they had tested its strength by attacking and breaking it down. She’d never fought a battle of magic like that before, but she had learned a great deal while they’d been at it. Devlin had conveyed how important it was to protect herself against the other gods, no matter where she went in the future, and she took that lesson to heart.

After everyone had left, she had set up several different magical safeguards so even they would need her express permission to get through unharmed. She’d also included a few less hazardous traps to deter anyone non-magical from wandering closer. The outer layer of the safeguards would push humans and animals away with feelings of confusion and dread. If a supernatural persisted in trying to get closer, they would be in for a few surprises that would stop them in their tracks.

Now, her magical cottage was a safe haven away from the rest of the world. But it didn’t just belong to her.
