“I’m trying to explain why we are here so he won’t kill us for trespassing or whatever!” she hissed back.

“I’m not going to kill you,” Lucifer said, not even bothering to pretend he hadn’t been listening to their conversation. “I’m here to invite you to dinner.”

“You—what now?”

“Dinner, at my castle.” Lucifer used his fork to point to the other pies and boxes of cookies she had teleported from home. “And I’m taking all of this with us.”

Before she knew it, she was teleported to a new location, along with her mate and her new grandfather. She blinked as she turned in a circle, taking in their new surroundings. Kingston put his arm around her waist to stop her from toppling over.

“Be careful, Tumi.”

Gripping his arm tight, she nodded. They were standing in what could only be described as a gothic dining room that was decorated in black and silver. There was a long table that could seat over a dozen people adorned with gleaming silverware and matte black dinnerware. In the center of the table were several silver candelabras with black candles aglow with dancing flames.

A large, elegant chandelier hung overhead, adding more light to the room. The pale pink bakery boxes holding the pies and cookies looked completely out of place in the dark room, but there they sat, stacked neatly in a pile on the end of the table.

“Are we really in Lucifer’s castle?”

“I’ve never been in this room before, but I’m guessing yes,” Harrison stated.

“This is so surreal. We are in Lucifer Freaking Lightbringer’s castle. Like, the literal King of Hell. The Dark God feared by—”

Kingston cut her off by putting a hand over her mouth. “You are a god as well.”

She pulled his hand down and stuck the tip of her tongue out at him before saying, “Yeah, but not like Lucifer. He’s a legend.”

“Please don’t let him hear you say that. His ego is big enough already,” a deep voice said from behind them.

Autumn spun around, but Kingston shifted his big body in front of her before she could see who had spoken. She felt his muscles flex as he prepared himself to defend, but he immediately relaxed again, and his voice held a hint of surprise in it when he spoke.

“Brax?”

“King?”

Stepping to the side, Autumn saw a couple standing on the other side of the table. The male had a big, hulking form, and his long silver hair was pulled back at the top so his impressive face was left uncovered. Like Kingston, he wore all black, but the stranger had opted for a tank top and lounge pants. His glowing eyes swirled silver, gold, and black, and staring at them made Autumn feel a little dizzy, so she quickly glanced away from him.

The female holding his hand must have been his mate. With long pink hair that had silver streaks highlighted through it and a beautiful face, she was a stunner. Even though she was as petite as a fairy, her glowing dark gold eyes gave away her god status. She was wearing an oversized fuzzy pink sweater that had a white bunny hugging a bright orange carrot on the front, white lounge pants, and fuzzy bunny slippers on her feet.

“You’re the god that rips people’s souls out,” Autumn blurted out.

The silver-haired male sighed. “That would be me. Braxton Lightbringer, and this is my mate, Devon. You must be the new Goddess of Revenge.”

She nodded. “Autumn Arcane, and this is my mate—”

“Oh, I know who he is.” Braxton’s lips curved into a welcoming smile. “Godhood looks good on you, King.”

Kingston grinned back at his childhood friend. Braxton was a few years younger than he was, but they had always gotten along quite well despite their age difference. Perhaps that had to do with the unique circumstances of their upbringings and families. While Kingston had been isolated from most of his peers due to his wealth and status, Braxton had been feared by everyone because of who his father was.

Braxton had visited Kingston a few times while he’d been in prison. Actually, he’d been the only visitor Kingston had agreed to meet with. When word had spread about their friendship, that fact had helped protect him while he’d served his time. Even the most hardened criminals hadn’t wanted to mess with him because of his connection to Lucifer’s son.

After he was released, whenever Kingston needed a break away from people, he had stayed at Braxton’s isolated house in the Fae Realm. Braxton had believed he had been innocent when no one else had, and for that, he would always be grateful. Now that they were both happily mated, it almost seemed like some crazy dream.

“Good, you’re here!” Lucifer boomed out when he suddenly appeared in the room, sitting in the throne-like chair at the head of the table. “Everybody, take a seat.”

Braxton frowned. “Dad, what’s going on here? What’s with the summons?”

“Can’t I invite my only son and my beloved daughter over to have dinner with a few friends?”

“You didn’t invite us. You demanded we be here without explaining why,” Braxton corrected dryly.
