“You know, like A-hole, but with a ‘G’ for you gods.”

This time, Autumn did laugh. “Oh, I like you.”

“She’s insulting you, too, you know,” Devlin pointed out dryly.

“No, I wasn’t,” the young woman chirped. “That was directed at you, not her.”

“Why you little—”

“Why are you here?” Autumn asked in a rush, trying to distract the insulted reaper.

The young woman raised her hand and pointed at Miya. “I need to hire her.”

Miya’s brows furrowed. “Hire me? To do what exactly?”

“To find me. I’m going to be kidnapped in two days. You can track people, right? So, you need to come find me wherever the bad guys are going to be taking me.”

Miya shared a confused glance with the others before asking, “How do you know this?”

“Soothsayer,” Devlin murmured before the girl could answer.

She nodded. “Which is how I know I’m going to be taken. I also know that one of your marketing managers is stealing money from your company. His latest charge on his expense account was an engagement ring for his girlfriend, and he’ll get away with it because the girlfriend works for your finance department, and she keeps clearing the shit he buys.” She snorted out a sardonic laugh. “They also expensed a vacation to France last year. You sure are generous to your employees.”

Devlin smiled sharply. “Excuse me for a moment.”

With that, he disappeared.

Autumn winced. “Oh, man. He’s going to go murder them, isn’t he?”

“Don’t worry, I’m sure it won’t take him long.” Kingston smiled reassuringly. “He’ll be back in time for our party.”

Autumn shot him a side-eyed glare. “Yes, because that’s clearly what I’m worried about.” Focusing back on the young woman, she said, “I’m Autumn, and this is—”

“Your mate, King. And you are Miya.” She nervously picked at the frayed cuff of her sweatshirt. “I’m Jillian Swift, but I prefer Jilli. Not that anyone really calls me that. Sorry, I’m not used to talking to people. Well, it’s been real, but I have to get back soon, or they will realize I took a detour. Then, I’ll be in a world of shit.”

Alarm shot through Autumn. “Do you need help? I mean, besides the whole kidnapping thing. There is a party tonight at the Bazin pack. You could stay. We’ll make sure you are protected.”

Jilli flashed her a grateful smile. “I know, but it will be way worse for me if I stay. Oh, I do have something to tell you two concerning your party tonight. Whatever you do, don’t touch the flowers. They aren’t what you think they are.”

“What does that mean?” Kingston asked, completely confused.

“I’m not exactly sure. Things aren’t always clear to me. Just like what is going to happen next week. I know I’ll be kidnapped when I’m heading back to the Trifecta University campus on Sunday night, but I don’t know who is coming after me or why. All I know is she has to help me,” Jilli said, nodding toward Miya. “It has to be you. It’s important to something or someone connected to you.”

Miya stiffened. “I need you to explain that.”

“I can’t…sorry.” She turned as if to leave, then spun back around. “Do you really want to help me? Besides the kidnapping thing?”

“Yes,” Autumn answered quickly.

“Do you think you can help me get into Aegis Academy? If you really want to help me, I need to leave the Human Realm and go someplace where my family can’t reach me. I’m only eighteen, so I’m technically not old enough to get into a magical academy yet, and I haven’t—”

“Done,” Kingston promised. “We have friends connected to Aegis Academy, so that shouldn’t be a problem. And if it is, we’ll ask Lucifer to get you in.”

“You know Lucifer? As in Lucifer Lightbringer?”

Miya smiled. “You just called one of the oldest, most powerful reapers in the known universe a G-hole, but the King of Hell impresses you?”

Jilli’s face went pale. “I didn’t know he is a reaper. I just thought he was an uptight business dude.”
