Meghan stands from her chair and pulls me into her chest. “And we have your back. You want someone to check in with you every day while you’re away, we’ve got you. You want someone to intercept if he tries to get you alone, I’m your girl. Whatever you need from us, just say it and we will do it.”

“Thank you,” I whisper, my voice shaky.

“You know you could always just have a bit of fun with him, exclusively of course. Get him out of your system, then you can walk away and find someone to settle down with,” Savannah suggests, taking a sip of her drink, her gaze fixed on me over the rim of her glass.

When I don’t answer, Ben chips in. “That’s not a half bad idea, to be honest. And you know we’ll have your back whichever choice you make.”

“I tried having some fun with him and then I walked in on him getting a blowjob, so no thank you.”

Silence falls over the table and I think about how supportive my friends are and that deep down I knew they would have my back. “You guys are the best, and I’m sorry I didn’t speak up sooner,” I reply sheepishly.

Our food arrives, perfectly timed, and it doesn’t take long for us to move onto happier topics. Even though the drinks flow and the chatter is easy, my mind can’t help but think over the suggestions from my friends. Do I use Sebastian to scratch my itch—even though it didn’t work before—or protect my feelings and cut him from my life as much as possible?

As I wake up, nausea rolls through me. Even with my eyes closed, it feels like I’m at sea while being spun around at speed. My head pounds, reminding me of the choices I made yesterday. Bad, bad choices.

With a groan, I roll over onto my stomach and bury my face into my pillow, hiding from the intrusive daylight peeking into my bedroom. That’s the last time I let Ben and Savannah talk me into going out after brunch.

After we left The Atrium, Meghan went home and the three of us went to a bar and drowned my sorrows. Savannah and Ben were more than happy to come along for the ride and what a ride it was.

I turn over onto my back and throw my arm over my eyes as I recount the events of last night.Oh God, we got kicked out of one place because I hopped on the bar and danced like a loon. A giggle slips through my lips before I groan at the pain the sound causes.

Why did I drink so much?

With my arms over my head, I stretch out, twisting and turning to wake my body up. My eyes land on my bedside clock as I move to lie on my side, trying in vain to find a position that doesn’t make me want to barf. I blink almost comically as I try to make the numbers on the digital display make sense.

Shit.

How is it ten thirty already?

I was supposed to be up an hour ago so that I could repack, shower, put on my armor, and make it to the airport with enough time to give myself a pep talk before I seehim.

Now, I only have thirty minutes to get my ass out the door.

I grab my phone from the bedside table and bolt out of bed, ignoring the raging hangover that protests with my every move. My stupid phone alarm glares up at me mutely, and as I clear the screen, I see messages pop up in the group chat.

Savannah

O.M.G! Why did we drink so much?

Meghan

LOL!

Ben

It’s not funny, Meghan! We’re suffering over here!

Meghan

Never have I been so grateful to be unable to drink. You guys gave me enough material to embarrass you ten lifetimes over!

Ben

Don’t you dare, Meghan Maria Jackson!
