“I didn’t think you were going to come out,” she says, not looking up from the magazine.

With perhaps too much defensiveness in my tone, I reply, “I was making a phone call.”

She looks up, her eyes searching my face for something. “Was the call to Cooper?”

“No, it was to George Bennett, confirming our plans. He’s expecting us to be there around noon tomorrow, so we’ll need to leave around ten.”

Alex doesn’t say anything for the longest time and I can see the internal battle that she’s having with herself, even from my place behind the couch. After a moment, she turns back to put the magazine on the coffee table, standing as she does.

She still doesn’t say a word until she’s at the entrance to the hallway that leads to her room, “I’ll be ready to leave in the morning. Goodnight, Sebastian.”

It’s like seven in the evening. Surely she can’t be going to bed yet?

I don’t question her, instead, I’m grateful for the breathing room it will afford me.

However, no more than thirty minutes later, as I’m watchingSportsCenter, she comes waltzing into the living room looking like every man’s wetfuckingdream. She’s wearing a dress that I can only describe as bondage, heels that would be more at home in a strip club, and her hair seems to have grown at least ten inches.

“Where are you going?”

Alex rolls her eyes before saying, “Out.”

“I can tell. But where?” I growl, every ounce of possessiveness I feel for her barely under wraps.

“Well,Daddy—”

My eyes flick up and down her body. “I’m not adverse to being your daddy.”

She rolls her eyes again, flicking her ponytail over her shoulder. “Not that it’s any of your business, but I’m going to a club.”

Jesus, she’s acting like a child.

“Don’t play dumb, Alex. It’s not a good look on you. Which club are you going to and who are you going with?”

“The last time I checked, I was an adult and didn’t need to tell anyone what I was doing or who I was doing it with.”

“You’re in a strange city. You shouldn’t be going out by yourself.”

“It might be strange to you, but it isn’t to me.” She turns and walks to the door, calling over her shoulder, “Anyway, Meghan knows where I’m going and who I'm going with.”

As soon as the door clicks shut behind her, I grab my phone from the cushion beside me.

Sebastian

Where has Alex gone?

Cooper

You’ve lost her?

Sebastian

I haven’t fucking lost her. She’s gone out. Ask Meghan where she’s gone.

Cooper

Meghan said she doesn’t know.

Sebastian
