Pizza sounds great.

Alex

Okay, what pizza does she want?

Alex’s question stumps me. Is that something I should know? I’ve lived here for two months and yet we’ve only shared a handful of meals together. I’m ashamed to say that when we have eaten together, I haven’t paid much attention to what Sutton picks. Does that make me a bad friend?

Regardless of my internal struggle, I do consider Sutton a friend.

Tucking my phone into the pocket of my sweats, I call out to Sutton. “Do you eat pizza?”

Sutton chuckles as she walks around the corner. “Who doesn’t eat pizza?”

I’ve never seen her wear something so casual. She’s in a pair of black leggings and an oversized forest green sweater with fluffy slippers adorning her feet. Despite her relaxed outfit, she still looks like a million bucks.

Especially in comparison to me.

Mentally brushing away the comment, I return her smile and say, “Good point. Alex wanted to know what type of pizza you eat, but we can just let her know when we get there.”

Turning toward the door, I pull it open and walk through, waiting in the hallway for Sutton to lock up. Noah isn’t home, but if I had to guess where he is, I’d say at the office. Out of the two, he’s been the easiest to avoid because he’s either working in his home office or out in his main office.

It takes us all of ten seconds to walk the few steps to Alex’s door. Alex and I aren’t quite at the point that I can just let myself into her apartment, so I knock and wait for her to answer.

Moments later, she swings the door open, holding her arms wide as she does. Behind her, I can see Meghan and Ben chatting animatedly on the couch.

“Oh my God, what took you so long? I’m starving. Is pizza still okay?” Alex’s eyes are a little crazed as she looks between Sutton and I.

Chuckling, I walk into the apartment, pulling Alex into a hug before I step back and reply, “It’s so good to see you too, Alex. Pizza is great. I’ll have a couple a slices of anything.”

I walk over to Meghan and Ben, greeting Meghan first with a hug. Her long blonde hair is tied back in a high ponytail and her face is free of make up, allowing her petite features to shine. She’s stunning and I kinda hate her for it. She looks like a grecian goddess with a white flowing dress covering her baby bump.

Ben pulls me into his arms, barely giving me time to release Megahn. To say I was disappointed when Ben told me he doesn’t date women, is an understatement. He’s one of the most good-looking guys I’ve ever seen. He has a straight nose, eyelashes any girl would be envious of and high cheekbones that should have him gracing the cover of a magazine. Tonight he’s wearing a white fitted t-shirt that shows off his tattoo sleeves and navy sweats.

Alex introduced me to Meghan and Ben not that long ago and even though I’ve only known them a few weeks, they’ve pulled me into the fold and it’s like we’re old friends.

My gaze meets Sutton’s over my shoulder, finding her closer than expected.

With a smile I’m certain doesn’t reach my eyes, I say, “Sutton, this is Meghan. Let me try not to butcher this. Meghan is married to Cooper, who is Alex’s boss. Alex and Meghan grew up together and Alex got Meghan the interview for the job she had workin’ with Cooper. Right?” I turn to Alex and Meghan and they nod in unison, matching smirks on their faces. “And this is Ben. Meghan and Ben live next to each other just outside the city. Ben recently broke up with his boyfriend so any time we go out, we’re always on a mission to find him the ‘one’. Everyone, this is Sutton, Noah’s girlfriend and my current roommate.”

Ben stands, pulling Sutton into a hug. “It’s so nice to meet you, Sutton.”

Sutton steps out of Ben’s embrace and straight into Meghan’s.

“It’s nice to meet you, too. Come on, let’s get comfy and then we can start grilling you,” Meghan laughs.

I watch as Sutton relaxes, allowing Meghan to guide her over to the couch.

“Can I get you ladies a drink?” Alex asks, standing in the kitchen entryway.

Turning to Sutton, I raise a brow in question.

“I’ll have whatever you’re having.”

“Two beers it is then. I’ll give you a hand, Alex.” I indicate to Sutton, before walking over to Alex in the kitchen.

“You know I could carry two beers, right?”

I laugh, although it doesn’t sound genuine to my own ears. “Sorry, I thought you might be gettin’ one for yourself.”
