“Yeah,” I blushed.

India waggled her eyebrows. “Sex is nothing like that.”

“Ugh! India!” I shoved her shoulder. “This is serious. And he knows I’m not ready to do it right now, but we’re spending alone time tonight, and if other stuff happens, I want to be prepared.”

India pursed her lips, her lime green hair twisted in a braided bun and her eyes narrowed. “Maverick knows you’re a virgin, right?”

“Yeah, he knows.”

“He’ll take it easy on you, and if he doesn’t, I’ll put my size eight boot up his pee-hole.”

I chuckled. “I know he’ll be easy on me, India, I just, I don’t want to look stupid.”

India clasped her hands together. “Let me tell you something about boys, Josie. They don’t think about things the way we females do. There isn’t anything you could give Maverick that he won’t enjoy. Just go and get acquainted with him. He’ll know what to do, and you will shortly after.”

I tossed a paper wad at her head. “You are no help.”

She twirled in her plaid skirt. “There is no secret to losing your virginity. It sucks the first time, either way.”

“It hurts?”

She nodded. “Yeah. Especially if he’s hung. Have you at least seen Maverick’s dick?”

“God,” I groaned, covering my face.

“I’m sure she has,” someone said. “He’s been trying to screw her since the beginning of the semester.”

King stood at the doorway to the writing center, leaning against the frame with his ankles crossed. His baseball hat sat backward on his head. India chuckled humorlessly. “You’re so funny, King, I bet all the girls love you—oh,” she looked at me, “I guess they don’t.”

King clenched his jaw and walked over, tossing his paper down in front of me. “I need help with this.”

I mentally groaned. I didn’t want to help him with anything, but I was the only one on the clock now. “Okay,” I said sitting up. A hugeD+sat on the top of his paper, and it made me want to laugh. “This is terrible,” I said.

King laughed, sitting back in his chair, he stared at me. “Waverly told me about your little boyfriend going to counseling. Does Maverick have Mommy issues?”

How did she even know about that?

I sat his paper down. “What’s it to you?”

King leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees. “Call it curiosity. I’m curious as to why you’d choose some messed-up playboy over me.”

My fingers clutched into fists involuntarily. “I think the fact that you’re still worried about it, and me, should tell you why I chose Maverick over you.”

King swallowed, and I noticed the redness in his eyes for the first time. “I think you were a slut the entire time.” He stood abruptly and pressed his thumb against the side of my cheek, I snatched away and tossed his paper.

India shoved his chest. “Get out before I call security.”

King chuckled, tossing his paper into the trash on the way out. India glanced down at me. “You okay?”

I straightened my hair. “Yeah, I’m fine. What an idiot.”

“He was high on something,” she said. “And it wasn’t weed.”

I grabbed my bag and stood up slowly. “What could it have been?”

India shrugged. “I don’t know for sure, but the dude took something, what a creep. Do you want me to walk you to your car?”

“No,” I slung my bag over my shoulder. “I parked by the door, thank you. I’ll see you tomorrow?”
