“What thefuckwas that?” Ishir hissed.

Zee glared at the grass between them, jaw ticking.

“Zee. I swear to fucking God. I amtrying, okay? I know we haven’t seen each other in a couple of weeks, but I am honest-to-God trying to make this friendship work, but it’s like all you want to do is mess with my head.” Ishir wasn’t shouting, but his voice was intense, filled with the hurt in frustration in his chest.

Zee didn’t say anything, eyes still averted.

Ishir let out a burst of breath. “I’m going home. How about you fucking sort yourself out before we talk again, huh? Get it through your thick skull—you don’t own me. You have no right to say who I hang out with or who I smell like. So stop fucking with me!”

He whirled around and stomped through the house, placing his cup on the first flat surface he saw and getting out of there.

He seriously, seriouslycould not deal with one more drop of Zee’s bullshit.

He got to his apartment, still steaming.

Why was Zee doing this to him? Why put on the possessive act and then not have the balls to step up when Ishir had confessed his feelings?

What was the point of warning other Alphas off him if Zee wasn’t going tokeep him?

Ishir was startled out of his angry spiralling by a loud knock on the door. He walked to the front of his apartment slowly, peering through the peephole.

He sighed, opening the door. “What?” Ishir snapped at Zee.

Zee, in his audacity, forced his way inside, banging their shoulders together.

“Hey,” Ishir protested but shut the door and trudged after him to the living room. “What the fuck, man?”

Zee was pacing, rubbing at the sides of his head like a madman. “You don’t fucking get it.”

Ishir crossed his arms. “You’re right. I don’t.”

“You—” Zee let out a growl, stopping suddenly. “I slept with another Alpha.”

Ishir went cold. Never in his life had Zee been cruel to him, butthis? “Good for you. How about you fuck off now?”

Zee ignored him. “And it was fine. Like, I could get it up. It’s not just you being an Alpha that makes me feel like this.”

“Like what, Zee? ’Cause all I’m seeing right now is a crazy person.”

“Exactly. You make me fucking crazy! The way I am with you isn’t normal,” Zee shouted.

“What, the hot and cold act? Yeah, tell me about it.” Ishir snorted sarcastically.

“No, the fucking…possessive bullshit I’ve been doing foryears.” He took a step closer, menacing. “Every summer you’d come back smelling like other people, and it’d drive menuts. I wouldn’t be able to sleep the night before seeing you, knowing I couldn’t scent you right away, that it’d be too weird, that I had to be fucking normal about you for once.”

Ishir dropped his arms, Zee’s fast, furious confession bowling him over.

“And you had no fucking clue. Just abso-fucking-lutely clueless. You think I’ve been freaking out about you being an Alpha? Not even close, Zammy.”

Ishir had to work through the dryness in his throat to speak. “What are you talking about?” Hehadthought the reason everything was so complicated was Zee’s sexuality. What else was there?

Zee took a step closer, eyes so dark it was like the light was falling right into them, disappearing in their pits. “I know I’m bi, Zammy. Like, I’m not an idiot here. I like Alphas as much as I like Omegas, which is, frankly, not that much, because all I can ever think about isyou.”

The words were hitting Ishir and bouncing off, too incomprehensible to process. “I don’t…”

Zee laughed humourlessly. “I’ve been trying to control myself for so fucking long. I thought, ‘Maybe choosing who he fucks will be enough. I’ll just tell him what to do, it’s fine.’ And then you brought that dickface home, and I swear to God, if I could have gotten away with it, I’d have killed him.”

“Simon?”
