I laughed. “Thanks, Tater-tot.”

“You’re welcome. I’m kind of looking forward to traveling, anyway. I haven’t seen much of the world, and I’m going to make you show me the most beautiful places everywhere we go.”

“Of course.” I snagged her hand and lifted it to my lips, pressing a kiss to her knuckles. “I love you.”

Her cheeks went my favorite shade of red. “I love you too.”

I pulled up to the bakery, parking in the same spot her old car had been the day I got out of prison.

I had spent a year in hell, but it brought me to the woman I loved.

…even if we’d taken an unconventional route to get there.

TATUM—6 MONTHS LATER

“Faster!”Raf yelled, gesturing violently for me to run faster.

It wasn’t working.

There was nofaster.

I wanted to yell that I was trying, but all of my energy was focused on said running.

The mountains were spread out to my right, and our house was off to my left, while my sneakers pounded the dirt and I sprinted through the trees.

“Wings, now!” Rafael’s command echoed through the forest, and I threw my effort into the wings on my back.

I screamed as they swept me up off the ground, for the first time ever. We had tried dozens of times without success, but finally, it was working.

And holy shit, it was terrifying.

With panic pumping through me, my wings’ movements went askew. I accidentally launched myself toward a tree, and another scream tore the air.

Rafael’s thick, muscular body slammed into me just before I crashed. We spiraled for a moment, and then glided smoothly to the ground.

The bastard was grinning when he set me on my feet. I clung to him, my chest still heaving and panic still flooding my veins.

“You did it!” He hugged me fiercely. “That was perfect, Tater-tot.”

“I almost hit a tree!” I clutched him tighter. “I’m never doing that again.”

He laughed, sweeping me off my feet and hauling me toward our house. “We’ll get some coffee in you, and we’ll try again. You’ll do better the second time.”

“That was thenineteenthtime.”

“The second time in the air, then.”

When I groaned, he flashed me another grin.

I couldn’t stop the small smile from creeping onto my face. “Fine, I’ll try again. Just one more time.”

“One more is all you need.” He tossed me onto our couch before disappearing into the kitchen. I shifted automatically back to my human form before I collided with the gloriously-comfortable furniture.

“You’ve said that the last eighteen times, Rafael,” I called over my shoulder.

“And I’ll say it the next eighteen, too,” he called back.
