She shook her head. “Add me to the text conversation with your brothers. I want to know everything, Raf. If I find out you’re keepinganythingelse from me, we’re done. You and I can both starve to death for all I care.” With that, she stood and crossed the jet’s living space without an explanation, closing herself in the single bedroom it boasted.

I let out another long breath.

I had screwed up everything between us… and I didn’t know if there was a way to fix it.

If there was, I wouldn’t have a chance to find it until after Miley was safe again.

And when she was, it looked like there was a damn good chance I’d be gone.

TATUM

Brynn threwher arms around me in a fierce hug the moment I stepped through the apartment’s doors. Tears I’d been holding back for too long stung my eyes, and I gripped her just as tightly.

“Zander won’t tell me if he thinks she’s alive,” Brynn said, letting go with one hand so she could wipe her own tears away with the back of it. “Did Rafael say anything?”

The bastard had said a lot of things.

“He thinks they turned her into a vampire to torture her with bloodlust, and that they’re going to offer to trade her for Raf,” I admitted.

She deserved the full truth as much as I did, if not more.

“Way to break the news gently,” someone muttered. When my head jerked upward, I found Zander sitting on a cushy couch, his fingers moving rapidly over his laptop’s keyboard. There were two other laptops open, one on each side of him, but he wasn’t paying them any attention at the moment.

“Shit.” Brynn wiped away more tears. “I should call my brothers. They probably can’t do anything, but… I should call them.”

“Dragons are possessive. Call them, and there’s a good chance they’ll take you so far from here, you won’t find out what happens to Miley,” Zander said absentmindedly, fingers still flying on the keyboard.

“I hate that he’s right. Where’s Rafael?”

“In his apartment, packing my shit.” I pushed a few strands of greasy hair out of my eyes. There hadn’t been time to shower before we left paradise, and I needed to clean both sand and a little sunblock out of it.

The clicking of Zander’s keys paused.

Brynn’s eyes widened. “What? Why?”

“I can’t trust him. He didn’t tell me we were in danger, and now it’s my fault that Miley’s probably in pain right now.”

Zander’s keys didn’t resume clicking.

“I didn’t even know he owned this apartment—the bastard obviously doesn’t trust me, either.” I strode into the kitchen, hunger clenching my stomach.

It messed with me a little, seeing the apartment that was so similar to mine and Raf’s, but so different too. The floorplan was exactly the same, but reversed. The colors were lighter—the cabinets were white, the floors were a light natural wood, and the furniture was softer. It lacked the hard edges and contrast I loved about our apartment.

When I opened the fridge, the damn thing was empty.

My phone vibrated in my pocket, and when I pulled it out, a text showed on the screen.

Rafael

I ordered food. Should be here in ten. If you want your things, you can come in here and get them yourself.

My nostrils flared.

Me

You said you would handle the packing.
