“We both know that’s not going to happen.” Rafael’s fingers dug into my hip, despite his words. “You’re going to give us the girl, or you’re going to be our next target.”

Eric laughed darkly. “As if you don’t have demons filtered through the nightclub already while your brothers search the rooms. I may be old, but I’m not stupid. She’s not here.”

My stomach clenched.

We really had gone in blind.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Rafael lied easily.

Too easily.

“I don’t—”

Eric cut himself off when a thick, tattooed body stepped into the booth’s entrance. August slid in, sitting down next to Rafael, and all four of the men with me looked equally surprised to see him. Raf hid it better than the rest of them, but I could see through his mask.

“What the fuck is going on here?” August glared around the table.

There was a moment of silence as none of the guys answered.

Or as all of them tried to come up with a decent answer.

But I didn’t look at them; I was too busy staring at August.

There wasso muchof Brynn in his face. In his scowl. In the color of his eyes, and the shape of his nose. They were definitely siblings.

I might not have officially met her brothers, but I had heard dozens of stories about them. They had basically raised her, they always came into town and took her out to eat for her birthday, they ordered an assload of candy from her shop that she didn’t know if they even ate…

Despite the obvious differences between humans and shifters, I didn’t believe that any of Brynn’s brothers wouldn’t care that her best friend had been taken and turned against her will.

So, I broke my promise to Raf and told him the truth. My hand swept toward Eric. “This guy paid someone to seduce Miley, then abducted her and turned her to a vampire. Now, she’s starving to death. We’re trying to save her life, but the only trade he’ll accept is my life for Miles’.”

August blinked at me.

Eric blinked at me.

Rafael blinked at me, too.

“Do you have proof?” the dragon finally asked.

I looked at Rafael, who slipped his phone out of his pocket. He pulled up the video of Miles, and I forced myself to look away when he slid it over to August. It wouldn’t do me any good to tear up while surrounded by five massive supernaturals.

August’s eyes narrowed as the video played. When it ended, he slid it back to Rafael, lifting his glare to Eric.

“If it’s on his phone, it’s evidence that he has the girl,” Eric attempted to counter. “I’m the one here to argue for the girl’s rescue.”

“Miley’s been under the Villins’ protection since Rafael and I mated. Brynn has too. Call her; you know she’ll tell you the truth,” I said quickly.

August silently pulled his phone from his pocket and tapped a few buttons. Another minute or two passed, and then he lifted the phone to his ear.

“Where are you?”

Brynn’s voice was muffled. “It’s a long story, but shit went down. The Villins are keeping me safe right now. Why?”

He didn’t answer her question. “Where’s Miley?”

There was a long pause.

When she spoke, her voice was too quiet for me to hear the answer.
