I nod, and Ethan does too. “If you say you didn’t do it, then we believe you,” he says softly.

“Oh my God.” Kay throws her head back, silently praying for God to give her patience. “You two are so pussy-whipped, I can’t even trust you anymore.”

“I’m telling the truth,” Jade says firmly, seeming to calm down now that we have her back. “I didn’t talk to Emma or anyone else. NSC has been seeing me around, so someone from her crew might have told her.”

“No one knows you were with Stan, or who Stan is.” Kay settles down on Ethan’s corner chair, biting her nail again.

“How did you know who he is?” I ask.

“Ivan told me. You guys mentioned him when you came back from New York, and I told him. He said Stanislav is big player in the Wolves. Close to Viktor Volkov. Ivan isn’t going to fucking tell Emma, is he?”

“I’m more worried he’s the one who’s going to tell the Wolves at this point.”

She shakes her head. “He wouldn’t. He barely talks to them anymore, and he would never do anything to hurt me.”

She believes us, and she’s thinking hard to try to solve this.

“I told you there were cameras at that house,” Jade says to Ethan and me. “He must have seen them.”

“I cut those off before we entered the house,” I explain. “Xi,” I suggest. “He knew where Jade was.”

Kay shakes her head, looking out of the window. “He’s out.”

“No one is ever really out,” I snort.

“His girl would cut his balls off.”

As I answer her, I grab Jade’s hand, pulling her back to the sofa. She sits on my lap this time. “That’s a lot of ball cutting you’ve mentioned today. Not sure I’m liking it.”

“Someone’s after Jade.” Ethan’s voice is quiet, like he’s still thinking.

Kay rolls her eyes. “Everybody is after Jade. She deserves it too.”

“Bitch,” my girl murmurs under her breath.

“He means someone is directly threatening her,” I elaborate, taking in the scent of apples.

Ethan is already up, grabbing the notes from a little box on the living room shelves. He gives them to Kay. She reads them one by one, and her brows lift to her hairline.

“Shit. Someone is after her, okay,” she mumbles.

“They’re clearly trying to set her up now. They knew if Emma threatened you, you’d think Jade had snitched.” Kay listens to me, staying quiet.

“Any idea who?” she finally asks.

I shrug. “We’re slowly narrowing the possibilities.”

She looks at me, unimpressed. “And I’m assuming narrowing the possibilities includes killing three people from my crew.”

I smile. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Vickie was my friend, you know.” And yet, no expression shows on her face because she’s a cold bitch like that.

“Have you found her body?”

“I don’t need to find her body, Elliot. I know when three people disappear socleanly, you’ve got something to do with it.”

I run a hand through my hair and drop my chin on Jade’s shoulder, holding her closer to me. “I guess we’ll never know, huh?” My left hand comes to play with the heart from the choker.
