My hands are shaking at my sides. I don’t know what to do, where to go. I silently observe him. Dark skin, the beautiful Pacific Islander type, and the shape of his almond eyes tell me he’s from islands in Southeast Asia. He’s tall compared to me, but nothing next to men like Ethan and Elliot. No one compares to Elliot’s height.

His deep brown hair is cut short, but long enough to fall just above his ears and onto his forehead.

“You don’t know me,” he says in a smooth voice. “My name’s Aaron. I work with Stan.”

I can’t help the snort that leaves me. “With orfor?”

Oh God, I truly have a death wish. Elliot was right, even facing death in the eyes, I can’t stop snapping at the man who holds my life in his hands.

A small smile tips the corner of his lips. “With, but that’s of no importance either way.”

A noise rattles behind the door that leads to the warehouse. Someone is tapping the code. Aaron’s eyes go to the door, and in a split second, the gun is tucked at the back of his jeans.

An elderly woman enters, probably a volunteer helping with the place. She squints her eyes behind huge round glasses.

“Hello, Yvette,” Aaron says politely. She frowns, and so do I. How the fuck does he know her name? “Just training the new girl. We’ll be on the shop floor in a minute.”

My jaw drops open, and Yvette nods. “We need more good kids like you two.”

She drops two items in a box labeleddefectiveand leaves again.

I don’t wait one more second. Not leaving time for Aaron to pull his gun back out, I run for the door leading outside. My arms twist the handle keeping it locked, ready to push with all my weight. Before I can, a body slams into mine, dragging me back, and turning me around.

I whimper when my back hits the door, and Aaron slams his hand on my mouth.

“That wasn’t smart.” He points his gun at my neck. “Pretty stupid, actually.”

I shake my head, attempting to get away from his grip.

A muffledpleaseattempts to leave my lips, pressed back down by his palm.

“I’m not here to kill you. So calm down. I have questions. You’re going to answer them, and I’ll be on my way. With or without you, but that’s your choice to make.”

My eyes widen from the shock.

He’s lying.

But then why am I still alive?

“I’m going to remove my hand, and you’re going to sit down in that corner.” He points at a secluded corner between two shelves. “If you keep still, I’ll put the gun away. Nod if you understand.”

I nod, starting to suffocate from his weight on me.

“Good.” He lets go of me, taking a step back, and points at the corner with the gun. My eyes stay on him as I move to where he told me and sit down.

It’s a smart move. Without having to threaten me directly with a weapon, I’m still in a weak position. I’m cornered, and if I want to run, he’ll catch me before I get to stand up. He’s much stronger than me, and it’s hard to overpower someone when you’re on the floor and they’re towering over you.

He knows what he’s doing. Of course he does, he’s a Wolf.

“Stan has been worried about you. He’s been looking everywhere for you.”

“So he’s back from his trip, then.”

“He is. And he isn’t happy.”

“Was it Emma Scott? Who told him?”

Aaron laughs softly. “Emma Scott only gets the information people bigger than her provide.”
