I nod awkwardly, not sure what to do.

“Words, Jade,” Elliot insists. “Is that a yes?”

“Y-yes. I’m sorry,” I repeat. “I’m so sorry.”

“You’re alive,” Ethan observes almost clinically. That’s his way of being surprised.

“Stan knows. He knows it was you two.”

“Was it Stan?”

I shake my head. “No. He sent someone. His name was Aaron.”

The brothers eye each other, but they don’t seem to know him. The only Wolf we know is Ivan. He’s our only link to the Bratva. The only one we’re allowed to see and that’s because he’s a soldier no one really cares about.

“What did he want?” Ethan asks softly. He’s easier to speak to than Elliot right now. The blond brother is too intense.

“He…he wanted…oh God.” The reality of what I’ve just done hits me right in the guts. A punch to the stomach. Kayla is going to kill me. For good this time. “I’m so sorry,” I cry. “He said if I’d really been taken against my will from Stan’s house, then I could go back, but then…then he’d kill you.”

Elliot’s jaw tightens, but his grip on me relaxes. “You don’t have to go back, my love.”

“I don’t want to!” I cry out. “I hate him. I fucking…shit.” I gasp a breath. “I don’t want him, and I want you to die even less. I couldn’t…if something happens to you two.”

Panic seizes me violently, and out of nowhere, my breath disappears.

“Mi Cielo.” Ethan is half in the back seat now. He grabs my face, forcing me to look into his eyes. “Breathe. Nothing is happening to us. We’re right here.”

“But…” I choke. “If I stay…”

“Take your time,” Ethan says. “Just breathe.”

“The Wolves. Oh fuck…the Wolves…our deal with them.” I squeeze my eyes shut, unable to look at them. “It’s over.”

The silence stretches for so long, I’m obliged to reopen my eyes. Both of them are looking at me similarly. Brows furrowed, jaws tight, but a shared look of understanding in their eyes. It’s mixed with a resignation I only understand because I felt it less than half an hour ago in that room with Aaron.

“You chose to stay,” Ethan says quietly.

I nod, incapable of talking through the tears.

“And our deal with the Wolves…it’s gone,” Elliot clarifies.

And I nod again.

“I amsosorry.”

Elliot’s hand comes to my left cheek, and Ethan’s stays on my right. “Sorry for what?” the older brother whispers. “For choosing us? For saving our lives?”

“The deal—”

“Fuck the deal,” he snorts. “We’ve got a bank robbery that’s going to get us all the money we need. And even if we didn’t, it doesn’t matter. Nothing matters as long as we have you by our side. Do you understand, baby? Nothing. Fucking. Matters.”

Ethan smiles softly at me. “You chose us.”

“I didn’t want anything to happen to you. I love you.”

“Sounds overprotective as fuck,” Ethan chuckles.

“You’re one to talk.” I look at Elliot. “And you.”
