“EAT SPIT!”By Slush Puppy is blasting through whatever speaker someone brought to our house. The walls are shaking, the floor feeling unstable.

The new Kings’ girl next to me starts kissing my neck like she’ll rise in our ranks if she makes me come.

She won’t.

She won’t make me come, and she won’t rise in our ranks.

People think I’m the number one fuckboy in the Kings’ crew—and God knows I’ve had my share of our girls—but no one gets my attention if Jade is around. No one else but her can get my dick hard if she’s in the vicinity. And the cute blonde with blue eyes—the opposite of the girl kneeling before me—doesn’t stand a fucking chance.

Bless her soul for trying, though.

I’ve done a lot of things to keep Jade close to me. To make her mine. Most I’m not exactly proud of, but I think the current plan takes the trophy.

I look at my brother, sitting in his armchair like an old man. It’s a worn-down leather thing close to the corner of the room, looking out of the window at our street. No one is going near him. People still secretly think Ethan is a weirdo; he acts strange, hates to be touched, will stay silent until he explodes. But no one tells him it’s weird. They’re too scared now. They seem to not want to die a painful death.

He’s bobbing his head to the song, his black-painted nails tapping the left arm of his chair, completely detached from the situation like he lives in a different reality from ours.

I huff and push the girl away from me.

“Go sit on Ethan’s lap,” I order her sweetly.

Her blue eyes widen, and she hesitates. She’s so fucking new, her Kings tattoo is still in a plastic wrap. A crown on her collarbone. We all have one, proud to forever be a part of a dangerous gang that only has any importance in our broken town.

“But…”

I lean toward her. “But?”

“He’s scary,” she whispers, barely audibly above the music. “And everyone says not to touch him.”

Jade snorts in front of me, mocking the girl. She doesn’t understand she’s the only person Ethan ever lets near him. That she’s privileged when it comes to my brother.

“You stay quiet,” I order without even looking.

Understanding the blonde’s weakness in a split second, I decide to use it against her. “If you’re scared of Ethan, sweet thing, maybe you shouldn’t be with the Kings. There’s much scarier than him out there.”

I watch her throat work. “No, I know. It’s just…” She eyes him. “I know what he did to those guys at the warehouse.”

Licking my lips, I smile brightly at her. The warehouse is where we fight once a week. One cage, anyone can fight, NSC and Kings alike. Just like everything in our town, there are no laws inside the warehouse. Deaths are rare, but people leave changed.

Occasionally, Ethan fights there. When the lethal energy inside him needs an outlet and I forbid him to kill anyone. The last guy he fought lost his hand from the number of times my brother stomped on it. The one before lost an eye when he pressed his thumb in the socket.

Creepy boy he is. No one understands him. Not like I do.

“I promise he doesn’t hurt the women he fucks.” I chuckle to myself. “Well, not beyond repair. Go on, now.” A lie if I’ve ever heard one. Ethan doesn’t fuck anyone.

But not only does it get the blonde going, it also makes Jade’s face fall. She doesn’t like to hear about her ex with other girls.

I smile to myself as I relax on my sofa.

Because if Ethan is busy with a girl, he won’t be busy thinking about someone else. If she pesters him all night, he won’t give Jade any thought.

His eyes go to mine the second blondie approaches to get his attention. Narrowing his eyes at me, he waves her away no matter how much she tries to make conversation.

She puts a flat hand on his chest, and he grabs her wrist. I hear her whimper over the music. Then he’s pushing her off, getting up from his armchair, and stalking to the hallway.

Good. I don’t want him around for what’s to come.

I watch the first guy who decides to try his chance. He steps next to Jade.
