Thank. Fuck.

“Cade,” he warns. “We had a deal.”

Like the maniac that he is, Caden throws his head back laughing. “No. We had a deal that I’d leave her alone while she was in town. Then she ran away. Then we learned she had stolen from us. Now it’s off. Step aside, Elliot. I have a dying need to stab your girl in the heart.”

“You’re not stabbing anyone,” Elliot growls back. “Behave yourself.”

“Oh…” Caden nods to himself. “I see. So all the pretending to find her so she could pay for her crimes against the Kings was just a nice little talk until you got her back. What is it? You haven’t gotten your dick wet yet so we can’t kill her?”

“Caden,” Kayla warns. “We don’t have the money. No one kills her until I get my fucking bills.”

“Are you that stupid?” He turns to his sister and tilts his head to the side. “She ran away with it, Kay. She probably spent all of it by now. It’s been two years, you idiot.”

I shake my head, hating the false accusation. “I didn’t! I didn’t steal any money.”

I try to go past Elliot, but I feel a hand grab the back of my t-shirt and pull me back. Now I’m standing behind both Elliot and Ethan, who apparently deemed he doesn’t want Caden to kill me either.

“This shit is too fucking funny,” Caden laughs again. “Look at all of you. She’s got you two wrapped around her fucking finger.” He points at Elliot and Ethan. “And you”—he points at Kay—“are clearly too fucking stupid to run a crew.”

“Spare us the bullshit,” Ethan says in a low voice. “You don’t care about the money, and you don’t care about her running away. You’re not part of this, remember? You never wanted to be. You left the North Shore so you and your fiancée would never have to face any consequences. So be kind andspare us.The only reason you just drove I don’t know how many fucking hours to come to a town you barely ever put a foot in anymore, the only reason you want her dead, is because she fucked up Billie. And we had a deal for that. You letuspunish her for it.”

Caden’s smile grows bigger. Scarier. It’s always bad news when he smiles. Everything is backwards in his brain.

He lets out a short breath. “So perceptive our Ethan, isn’t he?” Taking half a step back, he runs his hand through his messy black hair. “As you said…she touched Billie.” He chuckles to himself. “Shefuckingtouched her!”

With a roar, he jumps on his friends, attempting to push them aside as he tries to grab me. He still manages to cut my arm, and I cry out, more from the shock than the pain, pulling away but quickly blocked by the wall behind me.

It only takes Elliot to hold him back. The rage inside Caden might be strong, but Elliot is a beast. And if he doesn’t want anyone to touch me, they won’t.

Accepting his deal might be the best fucking decision I ever made.

The door opens again, and Billie Scott runs inside panting.

“Caden!” she shouts. “Stop.” She mumblesfor fuck’s saketo herself, like this happens way too often. “Stop, you maniac.”

“You’re fucking dead, Jade. Wait until I get you alone.”

“Caden, enough,” his fiancée orders. She sounds like the kind of pitbull owners who can never get their dogs under control.

“Little bee,” Caden says to her softly, but his lethal eyes are on me. “Let me do this, and then we go home.”

“You just had me chase you across the entire North Shore, you lunatic. Don’tlittle beeme.”

Billie settles beside Caden, and Elliot lets him go. Now that the woman who owns him is here, he doesn’t seem as scared that he’s going to do something irrational. I am.

“Jade,” Billie says sternly as a hello.

I nod at her, my eyes automatically going to the scar I left on her a little over two years ago. The Kings’ crown carved into the side of her neck.

Billie and I hate each other. There is no other way to put it. She’s NSC. I’m Kings. Or at least, I was. I didn’t need a reason to hate her. Our gangs were at war. But when Caden started becoming obsessed with her, Sawyer’s hatred for Billie became irrational. In his eyes, we were all doing our parts to keep the city in our hands except Caden.

And guess who Sawyer chose to go after Billie?

The only woman who couldn’t say no to him.

Me.

So I tried to beat her up with a few friends of mine, thinking that would appease Sawyer and his need for blood.
