“Billie is NSC,” his sister snaps. “She could have killed her and dropped her body in a ditch, for all I care.”

“Careful how you talk about my fiancée, Kay.” The room temperature drops a few degrees with Caden’s threats.

It’s not always advised to anger a psychopath.

“You can all do what you want when I get my money back. Not a second before, not a cent short,” Kay explains.

“Okay,” I say coolly. “We’ll get her, bring her back, and make her talk. She must know where Sawyer hid all the money he stole from NSC. We know she was helping him all along since they were fucking and oh-so happy together.” It’s hard to keep the bitterness out of my voice for this one. “Once she tells us, Ethan and I can do whatever we want to her. Even better, we can do whatever we want to make her tell us.” I smile, so excited for all the things I am going to do to Jade once I get my hands on her. “Deal?”

Kayla huffs, running a hand across her face. “We would know where the money is if someone,” she pauses to look at her brother pointedly, “hadn’t killed Sawyer before I could ask him.”

Cade shrugs, finally biting into his sandwich. “Didn’t kill him according to the judge.”

“Deal or not?” I insist, bringing the conversation back to what we both desperately want to know.

“Yeah, yeah. Deal,” Kay says with a lazy wave of her hand. “Go get her and bring her to me. No mess.”

“No mess,” I promise. Not until we get her all alone.

“Handcuffs?” I snort, as I check the bag Ethan just put in the back of his truck. Moving more of his clothes to the side, I smile when I find the rest of the stuff he brought. “And tape. Brother,” I chuckle. “Do you think you’re going to have sex with her?”

He shoves me to the side and zips up his bag before closing the bed of his matte dark green truck. “I’m not bringing those because I want to fuck her. We both know she’s going to do her best to escape, and we don’t want that.”

“Oh no.” I smile. “We wouldn’t want that, would we? Especially not since you’re so desperate to put those handcuffs on her.”

“Enough, Elliot,” he growls as he goes to the driver’s side, and I settle in the passenger seat.

“How badly do you want her?”

Ethan huffs and starts the engine. “I’m going to say this one last time. I’m not bringing Jade back to fuck her. I have no interest in her anymore. You want to use her as your little doll so you can hurt her and praise her like you do with all your toys, be my guest. I don’t want anything to do with her.” He pauses, tilting his head as he looks at me. “That’s exactly what you want to hear, isn’t it?”

He knows me so well.

I love to manipulate my women and praise them when they give me everything. If they become mine entirely, I reward them.

“Are you still in love with her?”

My question doesn’t faze him. He knows I’m testing his will. He looks ahead as he drives through the North Shore and onto the highway.

His answer is robotic, like a script he learned by heart and has been repeating to himself before bed every night.

“I feel nothing for Jade.” He accelerates, taking some hidden rage out on the gas pedal.

He knows he’s lying to himself, but he’s smart enough to try to believe his own words in front of me.

The drive is long. It always is when you’re excited to reach your destination.

I try not to retrace Jade’s man-hopping before she disappeared, but my brain won’t let me. When Ethan broke her heart in high school, she moved on to me. We were regular fucks for a while. I’ve always had a reputation for sleeping around, and she knew it too well to allow herself to have any feelings for me. I was playing with her. That’s what I told everyone. The truth was too complicated to explain, and only Ethan was privy to it.

I ignored the pinch in my heart when she told me it was over. That she wasofficiallywith Sawyer and didn’t want to fuck around anymore. I lived with the fact that I couldn’t do anything about it.

But when everyone started thinking that her and Sawyer stole money that belonged to the crew, there was my perfect excuse to grab her back. No one would want her anymore, and Sawyer was dead.

Loyalty is everything on the North Shore, and she won’t get away with it. I especially didn’t like that some of that money came from me. Frommyscams that I set up for the Stoneview billionaires.

Sawyer used to be second in command, back when Kayla’s dad was still alive and the head of our crew. Most of the moves we wanted to make had to go past him. Kayla didn’t have as much power before her father’s death. I ran all my scams past Sawyer. He knew the ins and outs and he would be the one to collect the money. Jade would go with him. What I never knew was that most of that money never made it back to NSC. Sawyer hid it somewhere, like the rest he stole. Since Sawyer’s dead, Kayla believes there’s only one person who knows where the money is, and that person is Jade.

Seven hours and a lot of speeding later, Ethan bobs his head to“You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid”by The Offspring as we get ontoMontauk Highway. We’re so close to our destination, my body is buzzing with excitement.
