“Logan, put your gun away,” Barbie begs, now forced to stand behind Xi.

“How fuckingdareyou?” Logan presses his gun against Elliot’s forehead, making him wince in the slightest. The barrel must still be burning hot.

“I’m guessing you’re not over it, then?” he chuckles mockingly.

“I will fucking end you right here. Right now.”

Xi doesn’t say anything. Even though he’s meant to be out of this business. He stands still, holding his girlfriend back.

Racer is quiet too. The most peaceful guy I know doesn’t even blink watching that gun against Elliot’s forehead.

“Logan, please,” Barbie insists. “I know…I know what he did, but violence is never the answer.”

“What you did?” I ask Elliot.

“I should have killed you long before now.” Logan presses harder against his forehead.

But none of that impresses the man I came with. He’s as cool as ever, not minding the situation in the slightest.

“Elliot,” I insist. “What did you do?”

“He killed Zara.” Xi’s voice is as neutral as ever, but his eyes tell me all the pain he’s still feeling.

Shit. That was their best friend. She was a known member of NSC, climbing up the ranks.

“See, I think your memory is failing you.Ethanis the one who stabbed her,” Elliot says coolly.

“And whose fucking order was it?” Xi’s grip on Alex tightens from the anger he’s trying to control. “I was there, Pearson. I remember correctly.”

“What? Wait, wait, wait…Ethan didwhat?” I bring a hand to my temple, attempting to process what I’m hearing. “Why…why would you do that, Elliot?”

“We were looking for you. Xi just needed a bit of convincing to tell us where you were.”

My mouth drops open. “You. Fucking. Psychopath.” I barely manage to form the words.

“Say bye-bye, Elliot,” Logan sneers.

My heart drops heavily when I see his index finger tensing around the trigger.

“Logan!” Barbie barks at him. “That’s enough. There will be no more gunshots in front of me.” Her eyes dig into Xi’s. “This stops now.”

“Alex.” Logan’s fury is quiet, but so real. “You don’t know what you’re talking about. You can’t understand. That was unforgivable.”

“I can’t understand?” Her voice comes out strong this time, unlike what I’ve heard from her so far. “What because you three”—she looks pointedly at Logan, Racer, and then Xi—“never did anything unforgivable to me?”

That calms all of them. Racer pinches his lips, shifting from one foot to the other awkwardly as he looks at anything but Alex.

Logan bites his tongue, literally, unable to answer anything.

And Xi lowers his gaze when Alex comes to stand next to him. “This. Stops. Now,” she repeats to her boyfriend. “No more violence.”

“Logan, lower your gun.” Xi’s order shouldn’t mean anything. He’s not their boss anymore. He’s out, as everyone keeps saying.

But sometimes it isn’t about who is higher or not in the hierarchy. Sometimes it’s just your best friend trying to protect his girlfriend from the violence of our world. And you have to respect that.

Logan shakes his head, defeated, and lowers his gun. “Get out of my shop.” His voice is somehow stuck in his throat, grief coating it and making it painful to hear.

I know too well what it feels like to lose someone you love too early. Especially in such a surprising way.
