“Okay, that wasn’t my finest moment, but that picture was staged. I don’t touch drugs. Never have, never will.” I shrug. It’s the truth. I have no reason to lie about that.

“Well, it doesn’t matter. We’re going to find a way to clean up your image, turn you intoCanada’s princeagain.”

“So, you follow me in the media, huh?” I smile. Her use of the name the tabloids gave me early in my career tells me she’s read up on me. Even if most of it is a bunch of fucking lies, made-up stories that should get a New York Times bestseller sticker for fiction because that’s really all they print.

“I did my research. It’s what any good employee would do. I needed to know what I was getting myself into when my dad gave me you to babysit.”

I make a point to look over my shoulder and around at the otherwise empty diner. “You know it’s okay. You can admit you like me. No one will ever know. There’s no one here but us,” I tell her.

“Why does it matter to you if I like you or not?” She folds her arms over her chest and leans back in the booth to eye me from across the table.

“It doesn’t.” I shrug, annoyed that she can see right through me.

“Right, sure it doesn’t.” She nods to my empty plate. “You done?”

“Seems that way,” I say, standing from the booth while adjusting my still half-hard cock in my pants. Aliyah pulls her wallet out of her oversized purse. Before she can grab any cash from inside, I throw two hundred-dollar bills on the table. “I’ve got it,” I tell her.

She takes out a hundred and tosses it on top of mine. “I don’t need or want you to pay for my meal.” She purses her lips together in defiance.

I don’t say anything. I wait for her to slide out of the booth. When she walks past, I swipe her bill off the table and slide it into the opening of her bag before following her out of the diner.

“Where to?” Aliyah asks as soon as I shut the passenger-side door of her car. I look over to her and smirk.

Is she my new personal driver too?

“Home,” I tell her. I haven’t had a chance to check out the building I’m going to be living in for how ever long the Knights decide to keep me. There’s supposed to be a state-of-the-art gym as well as a heated lap pool. It’s one of the reasons I chose the place.

Right now, I have a lot of energy to burn off. You’d think that training this morning would have worn me out, but I have a ton of pent-up energy coursing through my body. I’m telling myself it has nothing to do with the tempting little vixen sitting next to me. The completelyoff-limitstempting little vixen. I mean, I don’t think you could get any more off-limits than Aliyah Monroe.

Knowingthatdoesn’t stop me from wanting her, though. If anything, it only makes me want her more. Without a word, Aliyah pulls out of the parking lot. I rack my brain, trying to find something to say, a way to break this silence that’s fallen over us. It’s off-putting, because it’s not completely uncomfortable.

How can you be so comfortable around a stranger?

Aliyah turns into the underground garage, entering the code into the panel—a code that I never gave her. Then she maneuvers into the spot designated for my apartment. “Where would you have parked if I had a car?”

“I’m sure I would have figured something out.” She grins in a way that tells me I won’t like whatever it is she’s thinking.

“Thanks for the ride,” I say, climbing out of the car. I reach in, grab my bag from the back seat, and pause when I see her doing the same. “What are you doing?” I ask aloud.

“Following you, obviously. It’s kind of my job.”

“You’re going to be bored out of your mind,” I warn her.

“I have no doubt. But that’s why I have this.” She hefts her oversized bag onto one shoulder.

“What’s in that thing anyway?” I ask. I’d offer to carry it for her if I weren’t so afraid of having my head chewed off.Literally.I wouldn’t put it past her to sink those pearly white teeth right into the side of my neck and start munching.

“Everything and nothing at all.” She smiles.

That fucking smile is going to get me in trouble, and then it’s going to get her in trouble too. Because if I fall on that sword, there won’t be any fucking stopping. Something tells me one taste of this woman will never be enough.

Yeah, I need to find that gym ASAP. I need to distract both my mind and my cock from all thoughts of Aliyah Monroe. “Just try to stay out of my way. I don’t do well when my space’s cramped,” I grunt out and head to the bank of elevators.

Maybe I can piss her off so she leaves. It can’t be that hard, right? I’ve pissed off plenty of women before. Usually, it’s because I won’t go back for seconds with them, or I turn down their advances or some shit. I glance over my shoulder. I wonder what it’ll take to make this walking, talking temptation on two legs blow a fuse.

Fuck, thinking about her pissed off and fuming, yelling at me, should not be such a turn-on. Maybe I need a shrink. These thoughts are not normal.
