“You’re okay. I’ve got you,” he whispers.

“I… I’m sorry,” I tell him.

“It’s okay.” He pulls back and uses the pad of his thumb to wipe the tears from my cheek.

I’m mortified. I haven’t had this nightmare in such a long time. What the hell? “I didn’t mean to wake you,” I whisper, though it sounds stupid when I say it out loud.

“It’s okay. Can I get you anything?” he asks me.

I shake my head. “No, I’ll be fine.”

He’s silent for a moment, before he pulls away again and stands. “I’m right next door… if you need anything.”

I watch as he twists the knob, then quickly call out to him. He turns around. “Liam, can you… can you stay?”

“Of course,” he says, dropping his arm and walking to the other side of the bed, where he proceeds to slide under the blanket with me. He reaches over and pulls me up next to him, my head now resting on his shoulder. “Go back to sleep. I’ll be here,” he tells me, gently kissing the top of my head.

I know I shouldn’t, but I do it anyway. I let myself indulge in the safeness I feel when I’m wrapped in his arms.

She can’t hurt you. You’re not a little girl anymore,I remind myself. Then I close my eyes again and hope like hell my brain believes it.

There’s a weight on me. A heavy, warm weight. When I open my eyes to have a look, I find a muscled, tattooed arm. An arm that belongs to one very off-limits, hot-as-sin hockey player. The very same hockey player I’m supposed to be keeping a professional distance from.

All the events from last night come crashing down on me. I was drunk but, unfortunately, not drunk enough to not remember everything. Dancing with some guy in the club. Liam pulling him off me, dragging me home, kissingme…

Me kissing Liam back.

The nightmare that followed, Liam comforting me, and then me asking him to stay. To say I’m embarrassed would be an understatement. I don’t think there’s a strong enough word for what I am right now.

Shit, shit, shit. This was not meant to happen.

As gently as I can, I slide out from under his arm and off the bed. I don’t want to wake him. I pick up my phone from the nightstand and tug it free from the charging cable. He must have plugged it in for me last night. That’s sweet. I bend down, grab my shoes, and tiptoe my way across the room. Just as my hand lands on the knob and I’m about to open the door, I jump ten feet in the air.

“You sneaking out on me, princess?” his voice calls out from the bed.

I turn around to find him sitting upright, his back propped against the headboard as he watches me. Shirtless, with the sheets rumpled around his waist. Damn does that man have a nice set of abs. I almost forgot how nice…

“I’m sorry, like really, really sorry for last night. I don’t know what I was thinking. Please forgive me,” I say, avoiding eye contact.

“What part? What part are you apologizing for, exactly?” he asks me.

“All of it?” I shrug.

Liam slides out of the bed, and even though I know I should start walking, get away while I can, I’m trapped. My legs won’t work. He stops right in front of me, forcing me to tilt my head upwards to meet his gaze. “So you’re sorry for grinding that hot little ass on some stranger’s dick?”

“Nope, not that part.” I smile.

Liam raises his eyebrows. “Are you sorry you got so drunk I had to bring you home?”

“A little.” I nod.

“Are you sorry you kissed me?”

“You kissed me,” I clarify.

“You kissed meback. Are you sorry about that?”
