She was a beautiful brunette with brown eyes and part of the popular crowd at their high school.

After an hour of drinking and socializing, Natalie was introduced to a young man who had had his eye on her all evening. He was best friends with Vicky’s brother and went to a different high school than Natalie; his name was Robert Mitchell. Natalie seemed to have forgotten about her troubles as she played pool with him and danced the night away.

By 1a.m., she was tipsy drunk and ended up in a bedroom with Robert—alone. Unaware of her vulnerability, she was desperate to forget about Noah, so she let Robert kiss her. Seconds turned to minutes, as Natalie lost herself in the heatof the moment and ended up sleeping with someone she had known for less than six hours.

When the party was finally over, Robert drove Natalie back to her place since she had work the next day. The drive to Natalie’s residence wasn’t long, and once he turned down her street, he parked in her driveway and asked if he could see her again.

“Sure.” Natalie smiled.

“Can I get your number, then?”

“My parents don’t like it when my friends call the house. They’re strict.”

“Oh. Well, how did you come to the party then? Won’t you get in trouble?”

“They’re out of town tonight.”

“Ah.”

“Give me your number,” she said. “I’ll call you, okay?”

He searched for a pen and scribbled down his digits on a piece of paper.

“Can I pick you up and take you out tomorrow when you’re done with work?”

“I have to attend a family dinner, so I can’t—sorry.”

“Oh,” Rob said, feeling rejected. “Well, all right. I had an amazing time with you. Call me when you’re free.”

“I will.” She kissed his cheek before she left his car.

The reality of the situation was that she had no intention of contacting him at all. Natalie felt guilty for sleeping with Robert, even though she and Noah had broken up. She felt so regretful and thought she would have been able to move on from Noah much easier if she rebounded. But evidently, she was wrong.

??

The next morning, a tapping sound ripped Natalie away from her restful sleep. Tired and hungover, she rose from bed andfound the source of the noise: someone was throwing pebbles at her window. Drawing back her floral curtains, she let the sunshine bathe her room and got emotional when she noticed a handsome young man standing in her backyard, holding a big sign that read:

I LOVE U NATALIE

I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT U

The lovesick boy gazed up at her and shouted, “Natalie Rose Miller, please be my girlfriend again!”

John Miller suddenly appeared out the backdoor in his robe and slippers. “Hunter!” he yelled. “What in tarnation are you doing on my property at seven o’clock in the morning?”

“Trying to marry your daughter, sir!”

“You better be joking!”

Natalie appeared behind her father and apologized as she slipped past him. Her long blonde hair had fallen around her shoulders in a charming mess. While she had no makeup on, she still looked beautiful. Running barefoot across the lawn, she ran straight into Noah’s arms.

“I love you!” she confessed in tears. “I’m so sorry about yesterday. It was stupid of me to break things off.”

“No,Iwas the stupid one.” He gripped her tightly. “I don’t want to lose you, Natty. I love you too much. Forgive me?”

“Of course, I do.” She kissed him and ignored her guilt.

In her heart of hearts, Natalie knew she was the one in dire need of his forgiveness, but she was afraid to tell Noah the truth, because the truth would hurt. If he had found out about her one-night stand, he would have left her for good, or so she thought. Natalie loved him too much to lose him over a regrettable mistake; one she would never repeat, she told herself.
