“That annoying tapping thing you do with your fingers whenever you’re irritated.”

“I’m not.”

“Yeah—because you stopped now.” I rolled my eyes. “Look, Noah, your brother’s finally following his dreams after abandoning them for so long. Be happy for him. Photography has always been his passion.”

“I never said I’m not happy for him; I just find it strange he moved back to New York a week after we did.”

“Does it matter? He’s your brother. You guys used to be close.”

“Keywords:used to.”

“Don’t get grouchy on me now.”

“I’m not, I’m just… frustrated.” Chugging back his beer, he set it on the table. “Are you ever gonna take off that ridiculous necklace? It doesn’t even match the outfits you wear.”

“I don’t care.” My fingers clutched the pendant. “It’s special. I still wear your wristband”—I flashed it—“If you haven’t alreadynoticed, it doesn’t exactly compliment most of my outfits, either.”

“There’s no use in arguing with you over petty things.”

“You should save your arguments for the courtroom. How’s that case going on your end?”

“Our client is being difficult. He doesn’t want to settle out of court, even though the offer is more than generous.”

“Do you think you’ll lose the case?”

“I never lose a case.” Noah smiled confidently. “On a lighter note, did you know there’s a Ferris wheel over here called the London Eye? It’s also known as the Millennium Wheel.”

“I’ve seen pictures.”

“Every time I drive past it, I think of you.”

I couldn’t hide my smile. “We have a thing for Ferris wheels, don’t we?”

He nodded with a smirk. “I had many sleepless nights over that kiss.”

“It was intense.”

The steamy memories flickered in my mind as I tried to play it in slow motion.

“You basically gave me an ultimatum and then jumped out of an airplane—without a parachute.”

“You jumped out and came after me, though.”

“You left me no other choice. Honestly, Aria, you have no idea how messed up I felt afterwards.”

“I never forced you to kiss me.”

“I know that. I felt guilty because I didn’t want to stop,” Noah confessed. “I don’t regret it now. Maybe all of this was fate.”

“Since when do you believe in fate?”

“I found God when you opened your eyes in that hospital bed. And I started believing in destiny when I found out you weren’t biologically mine. Faith and fate go hand in hand.”

I didn’t really understand that.

“So, you’re saying there’s no way to fight fate? That a person’s potential for great evil is preordained?”

“We all make different choices in life, and each choice leads us to a different destiny.”
