“Wow, VIP, huh?” He flashed a teasing smile. “I should have partied with you tonight.”

“Your uncle is so cool! Why didn’t you introduce me to him sooner?”

“I was kidding about the partying.” He lightly chuckled.

Shifting my weight to my other foot, my ankle twisted by accident.

“Whoa!” Evan caught me in his arms. “I got you.” He helped me stand up.

Talk about quick reflexes.

“I… need to sit down.”

“She was about to call a cab to go home,” Jessica stated. “We’re supposed to be at a sleepover tonight.”

“But you got all dressed up and thought you’d walk right into the Velvet Lounge, huh?” Evan folded his arms in his chest and shook his head.

He seemed to handle my rebellion much better than Noah would.

“The fake IDs made it convenient,” she answered.

“You… have…” I looked up at him, wrapping my arms around his neck. “The mmmost… amaaaazinnng laugh!” My speech was slightly slurred as I giggled the embarrassment away.

“She’s definitely drunk.” Evan simpered, glancing at Jess.

“And you smellsooooooogood!” I yelled out like an idiot, leaning toward his neck. I had a cologne fetish to satisfy.

“She’s not going home.” Evan shook his head. “Not when she’s this drunk. Her dad will probably ground her until she’s twenty-one.”

“Screw Noah!” I blurted out in a drunken stupor. “I’m so mad at him!” Losing my balance once again, Evan caught me, wrapping his arm around my waist. I was glued to his body now.

“I think I better take her back to my place,” he said.

“Yes! Let’s go!” Sounding too eager, I rested my head in the crook of his neck and leaned on him for support. Drinking those last two shots was a bad idea.

“You should get home as well, Jessica,” he advised. “It’s not exactly the safest environment for you here.”

“Uh, yeah… unfortunately, if I go home looking like this, my parents will kill me—well, not literally—you get the idea.” She awkwardly laughed. “I’m gonna hang back until the girls are ready to leave. I’m not looking forward to staying at Steph’s place tonight. I’ll try to talk to her, Aria. You deserve an apology.”

“I can’t believe you risked getting grounded for life because of me.”

“And I still would have accepted a cruel fate if your uncle hadn’t shown up.”

“I love you, girl!” I flung myself at Jess.

“Can’t… breathe… lungs… collapsing.”

“Sorry!” I released her from my deadly embrace and leaned on Evan again. “Just so you know, I don’t want a lame ass apology from that cruel bitch! She can shove it someplace dark!”

“Right, Aria…” Evan gave me a queer look. “Let’s get you out of here.”

“Text me!” Jess demanded.

“I will!” I walked beside my uncle as he led me toward the exit. Losing my motor skills, I nearly tripped, but it helped to hold his shoulder.

“What about your date?” I asked. “You shouldn’t ditch your plans because of me.”

“She wasn’t my date.”
