“Since when do you smoke?” Now I had every right to be angry at him.

“That’s none of your concern.” Noah devotedly took a deep puff, tapping the ashes out the window.

“Itismy concern! You’re exposing me to second-hand smoke!” I coughed.

Cursing under his breath, he took another drag before he put out the butt in an empty coffee cup.

“I’ve never seen you smoke.” I looked at him in disbelief.

“You’ve never seen me do a lot of things,” he replied, sounding irritated. “And that’s a good thing.”

The darkness in his voice did something to me.

“That’s not the answer I was looking for.”

“But still an answer.” Noah’s mocking undertone was so annoying.

“You’re gonna smell like an ashtray,” I muttered, turning my gaze out the window, only to jump when he slammed on the brakes and pounded the car horn.

“Take it easy!”

He stopped at a red light and continued to ignore me.

Probably raging on the inside.

“Why don’t you just yell at me since you’re so obviously pissed off? I’m sure you’ll feel a lot better.”

No response. No reaction. Noah seemed determined to torture me with silence as he stared straight ahead.

“Are you ignoring me now to punish me for giving you the silent treatment?”

“I’m using logic. Stop fucking with my emotions.”

“Oooh… he cussed.”

The tables were turned. I felt horrible for treating him like this for weeks. I had no clue how I could ever endure his cold indifference for an extended period. But thankfully, Noah finally spoke.

“We both know what happens when we argue.”

“Yeah, I know. I push your buttons, you push mine. I hurt you, you hurt me, and then we…” I froze.

“And then we what?” He glanced at me with a seductive gaze.

Kiss and makeup,I wanted to say, but I couldn’t tell him that. Our relationship had so much negative tension lately, and I felt like he didn’t love me the same anymore.

“Finish what you were gonna say, Aria.” Stopping at another light, Noah locked his eyes on me.

“We come to a resolution.”

“Yeah, we’re awesome at that lately, aren’t we?”

“I’d rather have you express your anger healthily than to bottle it up inside—that’s how resentment builds. Why are you smoking?”

“Why do you think everyone else does? I’m trying to manage my stress.”

“You’re sabotaging your health, Noah.”

“Tell me something I don’t already know.”
