The light turned green, and we were moving again.

“I didn’t know I stressed you out that much,” I said, feeling sad.

“Is that what you think you do, stress me?”

“Are you trying to sound condescending?”

He sighed and flexed his fingers around the steering wheel while I tried to find some common ground with him.

“Can we just get past everything that’s happened?”

“I don’t know, Aria. You tell me. Can you get over your little feud with Vanessa?”

“The same way I’m expected to get over what happened between you and me?”

“You’re digressing from the subject at hand.”

“No, I am not,” I denied.

“Why did you lie to me? Why were you drinking? And why did you go to Evan’s place?”

He didn’t even give me the opportunity to answer the first question.

“We’re not in a courtroom, Noah—and this isn’t a deposition, so stop cross-examining me.”

“Are you considering a law career as well?” he spoke with that same lofty tone, triggering me.

“I don’t need to go to law school to know what a deposition is. I’m not stupid.”

“Your actions last night prove otherwise.”

“You want me to apologize for drinking underage? Fine! I’m sorry! But I refuse to apologize to Vanessa!”

“It’s not healthy holding a grudge.”

“Wow.” I scoffed. “Says the guy who unjustly hates his own brother. You’re the last person to lecture me about ‘holding a grudge.’”

“Don’t drag Evan into this.”

“Too late. He’s beendragged.”

Noah gripped the steering wheel tightly, taking a deep breath. I prayed he would blow a gasket.

“Talking to you is pointless when you’re being so immature,” he said.

“That’s rich coming from you. Anytime you hear something you don’t like, you conveniently call me ‘immature.’ Would you like to add anything else?”

“Annoying as fuck.”

“Look in the mirror.”

“Extremely disobedient.”

“Good. I’m glad. Someone has to stand up to you.”

“A princess brat—edit:myprincess brat.”

“I’m not yours. I belong to me.”
